I honestly utter detest Mourinho and would be disappointed. Surely if we even April fools joked had enough cash for him we could get a manager who actually wants to attack and play football.

You are deliberately misrepresenting my position (and not for the first time).

Your argument is that we will be more competitive in European competition under Lennon.

My argument is this: two of Lennon's results exceed expectations (Spartak Moscow 2-3 Celtic, and Celtic 2-1 Barcelona) - no more - so the argument that we will punch above our weight under Lennon is tenuous, at best.

These results are his only other positive results in the Champions League and Europa League proper:

    Celtic 1-1 Udinese
    Stade Rennais 1-1 Celtic

    Celtic 3-1 Stade Rennais
    Celtic 1-1 Stade Rennais
    Celtic 0-0 Benfica

    Celtic 2-1 Spartak Moscow
    Celtic 2-1 Ajax

Any Celtic manager worth his salt should achieve those results, particularly at Celtic Park. (Even Deila achieved positive results against comparable sides - Ajax, Fenerbahçe and Internazionale.)

Those results are tempered by half a dozen unacceptable ones (humiliations in some cases):

    Utrecht 4-0 Celtic
    Celtic 0-0 Sion
    Sion 3-1 Celtic
    Shakhter Karaganday 2-0 Celtic
    Celtic 0-3 Milan
    Barcelona 6-1 Celtic

The results that Rodgers achieved against Manchester City, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Anderlecht, Zenit, RB Leipzig, and Valencia at least match Lennon's results against Udinese, Stade Rennais, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.

What separates Lennon and Rodgers, then?
Qualification for the Champions League Round of 16?

Rodgers' Celtic never faced second seeds as weak as Benfica and Milan: we drew Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in 2016-17 and 2017-18, respectively. Borussia Mönchengladbach (third seeds in 2016-17) were undoubtedly better than Spartak Moscow, as well.

Stein's reputation is built on more solid foundations than two great results. The same is true of O'Neill and Strachan.

Neil Lennon's European results were slightly better than Rodgers' but not worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as Jock Stein's.

No, I’m not. It’s a stupid thing to say.

Neil Lennon took one of the worst Celtic teams in history, at one of the darkest moments in our history and turned it into a last 16 team in 3 years.

Which is the part you’re saying should be ignored.

He also failed to secure group stage football, on the football pitch, in two of his four campaigns in charge, but you are prepared to overlook that fact, aren't you? Who's being selective, there?

He won two domestic cups out of nine at Celtic. He also blew a title challenge, with four games remaining, against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Should that be ignored?

He left Hibernian in eighth place. Should that be ignored?

It seems that selectivity is fine in here, as long as it paints Lennon's managerial career in a positive light.

I am prepared to overlook that fact, as it does take some time to take one of our worst ever teams and change everything into a Champions League team. Do you think that’s an unfair thing to say? Or do you think he should have been competing in the latter stages of Europe straight off the back of Tony Mowbray?
