To be honest mate I think you are blinded by loyalty and will one day feel a bit daft with these arguments.

Blatantly he is motivated by self-interest. He loves being Celtic manager, he loves 10k getting rattled into his account each week and he knows once this is done he is done. He’s been very clear how much he loves this career and this job in particular. To deny that is the biggest motivator and just paint him as, presumably, a ‘sense of duty’ saint is quite ridiculous. Okay, it’s not strictly a fact since we can’t read a man’s mind but it’s usually fair to assume self interest unless there is clear evidence to the contrary, which there isn’t.

Even at this point if he thinks he’s the only man for the job, he should be stepping down. The will of the support, which is so clear, should trump what he thinks. If the 10 is to die it should be on our terms, not his. We put more money in, after all.

Sorry to be rude but the second point just seemed like gibberish. We have given Lennon far more than he’s given us. Being Celtic manager is a privilege. Sometimes Lennon subtly tries to paint himself as the guy doing us a favour. Baffles me that people buy it. He owes it to us to do the right thing and step down. Period.

For point 3, ignorance is a poor excuse and to just assume ignorance to excuse him is ridiculous too. There’s no shortage of people telling him he’s not fit for the job, including friends and allies and a bunch of protesting supporters. He’s confronted by press conferences which actually tell him the situation every week. If he doesn’t see the situation clearly then it’s because he doesn’t want to. The man is not an idiot. He can see the league table and he can count to 10.

It’s just mental gymnastic to paint Lennon as a better man than he really is. He’s entitled to wait to be sacked but he needs to be criticised fairly for it. He can’t have his cake and eat it too. You’re either one of us and you get out the way or you’re just another manager and you stay for self interest.
