Aye that’s true, but even Rodgers couldn’t achieve that. He thought we could play the same way in Europe as we did domestically, unless of course it was the Anderlecht game which he sent us out not to lose by 3 goals.

True but if we can’t treat Barca away like Dundee away at the same time. Being too good for the SPFL doesn’t necessarily translate to good for Europe. We need a balance.

Being a team able to progress in Europe would take us miles away from the rest of the SPFL though.

I don’t get the mentality that if we want to improve in Europe we almost have to sacrifice some success domestically. It doesn’t make sense to me.

Not sacrifice mate, realise the position we’re in and build a team able to do both. We don’t want a team that breaks down the play and is capable of being deadly on the counter in the SPFL, it’s what we need to do in Europe.

We need somebody who can deliver a fluid style. Able to change it.

Most importantly, we need a squad capable of fighting on 4 fronts. The amount of injuries this season has been far too many, we need to resolve it. Fitness should be the one great leveller for us.

Lennon couldn’t do it when we had lesser competition so I don’t see why people see him as the one to do it now. And his tactic in Europe was basically park the bus and aim for Samaras in the air and when it got found out in his second CL campaign he was clueless. Football has moved on massively from that type of football.

I think the qualifying for the CL is a lot harder now as well and I don’t see him getting us there.

I disagree about the style. For me we need a manager who’s modern and will have us pressing the life out of teams and is innovative. There’s a reason every team around our level that’s doing better than us, and competing with the bigger teams, all play aggressive attacking football and press high up the pitch without giving the opposition a breath.

As for the last point, a massive reason injuries has caught up with us IMO is recruitment was so bad under Rodgers that we had a squad full of absolute * that wouldn’t ever get near a squad. Which is why I said to Gyp that we should have the best people running each individual department.

I like what he's done for us in the past but think he has the pull on young players or even the 30 n over age group, the likes of Martinez and Benitezwould surely have a more sound knowledge of foreign markets and more contacts.
We need to start attracting players who are in there prime from the likes of Belgium, Sweden and Poland and the likes. Singing teenagers wont get us a run in Europe.

We’ll agree to disagree on Lennon. It’s been done to death.

The qualifiers is a good point but I don’t see it being beyond us to beat the likes of AEK Athens.

The style I think we’re pretty much in agreement, there’s more than one way to destroy a teams play and be deadly on the counter, pressing the life out of them, defending as a unit, closing the spaces for the other team to play and making sure when you have the ball you do something with it is the exact way I would want. If you can do that with style and attacking prowess against a team similar to us then definitely, do it. If not then you can be more conservitive as well.

The recruitment part is true, it’s also down to being overplayed when it’s not 100% required. There’s been times where we’ve been playing injured players when it’s not been required. Most notably with Broony and Tam Rogic. To a lesser extent, with Dembele while he was here and we had a fit and firing Griffiths or last season when Griff was playing and Eddy was in the squad.

We need a balance, we need a manager who knows when to pick and choose how to do so.

The style I’m talking about is a massive reason I don’t want Lennon. His whole tactic in Europe was to defend deep and aim for Samaras with the long ball.

For me we need a modern coach who will go out and press teams high and not sit back and try not get pumped.

Like I said mate, we’ll agree to disagree there, think it was far, far from that.

I think we need a coach who can do that but also knows when to sit back, when a game needs slowed down, knows * off a game. A tactically astute coach who can evolve as a game goes on.

Probably where we disagree, it’s what his Hibs team consistently * done to us never mind looking back to his time at us :56:

    Ronny back, as his assistant?
It was seen as the way forward before by the club.

I had a feeling this poll would show the majority not wanting Neil Lennon in the job. There's something about this public showing of non-support for Neil Lennon that doesnt sit easy with me. This is a guy who received death threats, bullets in the post, assaults and horrendous abuse from bigots, if anyone deserves our support its him. Im not saying for a minute that because of what he had to endure that means he should automatically be given the job but theres something classless and disappointing seeing Celtic fans sticking polls on the internet showing they dont want him.

I think trying to force assistants on people should be consigned to the * bin.

Had to vote no, as others have said it's a backwards step.

Here is why he has every right to feel he should be in there with the best ,salary takers .

He has exactly wot it takes to manage our club, people are slating the way his team played in the last year and a half ,exactly wot they have done to br team , that is more down to teams learning to combat the style and loss of players who are important , lenny had us playing great attacking football in the first year and a half ,similar to br also , but i feel br inherited a much better team ,supplemented with a good few from our youth system starting to find their feet ,along with a captain who had plenty experience and was peaking .
The biggest difference seems to be one off games , cup ties where br was flawless ,down imo to planning and detail , lenny shades it for me against stronger opposition , you never knew how it could go , just maybe, but with br we only wanted to put on a good show mostly expecting the worst .
My point being we always believed we had a chance in europe with lenny and maybe now we have moved forward some ,a good recruitment team will push us further which we had with him .
