Celtic boss Gordon Strachan says he is on the verge of signing Shunsuke Nakamura.

The Bhoys are close to agreeing a deal with Italian side Reggina for the Japanese international midfielder.

Strachan says that Nakamura is looking to move to Parkhead, and expects a deal to be sorted out this week

"It's going great," said Strachan. "The lad wants to be with us so it is going great.

"You never know what will happen but last night things were looking very good.

"I haven't spoken to him personally but the club sells itself. Everywhere you go people know about Celtic."

Strachan has done his homework on Nakamura and believes he can be a great success at Celtic.

"He's great going forward, with his vision, and he sees things a lot of people can't see.

"He can run with the ball and he is a decent lad as well.

"I have done a lot of homework and have spoken to people who have worked with him all over the place so I know what he's like.

"He also starred against Brazil and was man of the match so from that you can say he's not bad."

Reggina president Lillo Foti confirmed that Nakamura is on his way out of the Stadio Oreste Granillo.

"We are close to the conclusion of the relationship between Nakamura and Reggina, a fantastic relationship that allowed Shunsule to be professionally known in Europe and allowed Reggina to be appreciated in Far East," said Foti.

"The negotiation with Celtic might positively end soon."

Reggina: 'We Are Close To The End With Nakamura.'
    7/25/2005 7:53:00 AM
The Japanese player is set to join the Scottish club by the end of this week.
Nakamura’s adventure with Italian club Reggina is coming close to an end as the President of the Amaranti, Lillo Foti, confirmed that the midfielder will soon become a Celtic player.

“We are close to the end of the relationship between Nakamura and Reggina, an exceptional relationship. The negotiation with Celtic could soon come to an end.”

Nakamura had repeatedly stated his intention of leaving Reggina this summer after successfully helping them avoid relegation from Serie A in the past seasons.

MILAN, July 25 (Reuters) - Serie A club Reggina have agreed to sell Japanese international midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura to Scottish club Celtic.

"We have reached an agreement with Celtic Football Club for the transfer of Nakamura," the Italian club said on Monday.

Nakamura has scored 11 goals in 80 Serie A matches during his three seasons with Reggina.

The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Calabrian club from Yokohama Marinos in 2002.

    Nakamura's message

I tried to translated Nakamura's latest message in his official homepage.

    Please forgive my poor English.....

    Report on my transfer

I decided to play for glasgow celtic of Scotland in the coming new season.

Although the offers had come from Russia, Germany and Spain, the most important point why I chose celtic was that the team showed the best need for me than other clubs. In addition, as most of the celtic players are the members of respective national team, I think playing with them would stimulate me. Moreover, celtic still keep a chance to join this year’s tournament of champions league. Thus, the team has in place the kind of environment necessary to gain good experiences.

I was asked by a lot of people why I don’t chose Spanish team. Of course, as you know, I want to play in Liga espanol in the future. However, my dream is not only to play but also to take an active part there. Therefore it might be a roundabout approach, I believe that all the experiences in Italy for the past three years and in Scotland from now on would be a fast road to achieve my dream.

My next schedules have not been fixed yet, so I will give you another message as soon as possible when it comes clear.

    Ciao.

    Shunsuke

    Italian lawyer Angelo Massoni:

"The plan is that celtic will go to Japan after the 2006 World Cup for pre-season. I believe Nakamura's Japanese agent is trying to organise a trip that will see them play a minimum of three matches."

    Peter Lawwell:

"One of the most complicated aspects of the negotiations was the player's image rights, which Celtic have secured. This could lead to an increase in merchandising sales in the Far East as well as a significant boost for our other services and our products."

Terrible*, if undeniably epic, bump (8 years?! :87:); spot on post :50:.

    * Given what he achieved afterwards, there must have been a more recent thread for you to bump. :smiley-laughing002:

One of my favourite players. So comfortable on the ball even when surrounded by players.

    Inpecable technique.
