no i wasnt comparing him to keane i was mentioning his first goal being a pen as was keanes as i bet nobody was saying "it was only a pen" when keane scored.

fact is on here everyone looked at his goal ratio and had there minds made up before they gave him a chance

Fair enough but apart from his penalty I thought he looked fairly poor. You just had to watch robbie keane move to see he was a class act.

the guy can win headers and proved that today, gives us balance wae his left foot up front, he could easily knock balls on to wee Hooper.

Murphy looked okay definitely more competent than Kilen, but ultimately showed nothin to get too excited about but I feel you need a half decent striker as back up. I work in England with people from all over and two Ipswich season ticket holders (Remember he was there on loan last season)say he obviously has an eye for goal but is nothing special, low championship level and they were surprised that a club of Celtic's calibre were interested in him. Sadly we are now looking at that level for players!

if you look at what he offered in the 90 mins apart from the pen then he was poor, very poor done nothing for me, i think the only reason more people have not said anything is cause he scored the pen

is he the player who is gona get us goals from open play this season and get 20 goals, i don't think he is, but i hope he does

He probably won't get us 20+ goals a season but I think he'll definately pop up with a few important ones over the coming months. Was his first competitive start for us and he got the winner, even if it was a pen. Hopefully he'll get into his stride after a little run of games...

First impression was not great. He really does not look like a striker. Neat and tidy but very limited looking. Does not look like he would be a good winger either. The one thing I though he would have was killer pace but he did not look fast. Too early to judge but he looked more like a Motherwell level player to me and he looked like a classic Celtic non-scoring (despite the penalty) striker. Sadly he even looks a step down from Fortune,Sammy etc.

    5 pages :31:

The guy has played 1 game in the hoops, scores on his debut and this thread has people already making assessments of how his Celtic career will pan out.

    Un * believable....and we say we're not fickle. :47:

I hope the poor sod doesn't find this site by accident after some of the posts I've read in this thread.

Some of you need to take a step back and give the buy a break. The time to judge him will be after he has had a run of at least 6 or 7 games in the team.

Murphy has never been known for his pace, not sure where people are getting that from, I completely agree mind, he is a step down from Sammy and Fortune. He is very similar to Chris Killen imo.

Watched him week in week out at Sunderland, championship striker at best, will chip in with the odd goal but 1.5m was the first very bad decision from Lenny, on a more positive note he has a 100% goal scoring record with Celtic and took the pena well.

Hopefully he will prove me wrong and get a hatrick next week.

OK, it was his first game but he looks totally hopeless to me.

It seems like we got around £1.5 - £2 million Fortune. If this is the case, I can't believe that anyone would think we are better off with Murphy.

Numerous times yesterday there was good balls put right across the Motherwell goal and he wasn't even close to putting them in - yards away from where he needed to be.

Stokes goal record (considering his age) proves otherwise

    Why the anger?

One game or not, the guy looks very poor to a lot of people me included.

I'm not going to boo him at games and until he proves himself either way, will give him encouragement when he does play.

Just now though, my opinion, and many others is that he looks poor.

I wouldn't worry about him reading the thread, he is a pro footballer, not a 12 year old.

I'm giving the guy a chance but I've seen him play for Sunderland so not too hopeful about him.

Looked alright to me. First competitive start and he grabs a goal without playing an amazing game. Will do for me. Time will tell but I will give the lad a chance. So far so good I'd say!
