the tragedy in this is that I spoke to an ex cop who instantly offered a name as to who might be responsible for this crime, does that not tell you something about our disgraceful system?

again, I weep for this poor boy and his family

Does anyone know if Celtic will have a silence on the 20th for him?

Surely he deserves recognition from the whole Celtic family.

    Shocking stuff, R.I.P. :shamrock:

So sad - such a pointless murder of a young guy with his whole life ahead of him who had already made a big difference to others lives at 19. Well done to all those who marched today in memory

Can only send out a heartfelt apology to the fella's family.

Yet another tragic waste of life, taken away by those with no morals or scrupils.

I hope whoever did this has a lon-winded account in jail with Big Hammy:38:

THE people of a Lanarkshire town turned out in their thousands yesterday to march together in an emotional tribute to murdered teen Reamonn Gormley, remembering their friend as a "True Gentleman".

Around 2,000 friends, relatives and neighbours quietly wept for Reamonn during a three-mile procession through his home town of Blantyre.

Popular Reamonn, 19, was stabbed through the neck as he strolled home from the town's Parkville bar with his pal David McFall after watching Celtic beat Aberdeen on Tuesday.

And yesterday's poignant walk began at the same pub at 11am.

Pal Ashleigh Chrisholm, 19, was overcome with emotion as the hushed crowd grew bigger than expectations.

She wept: "Reamonn was a true gent. I used to look forward to walking home from school with him. I hope he's looking down on us."

The tribute to the Glasgow Uni sports psychology student was organised by local youth worker John Tierney, 32, who leads weekly rambles with his group 'Tyre Walk 'n' Rollers.

And John said yesterday: "The response has been overwhelming and reassuring. It was a chance to show respect to Reamonn's family and for residents to join up as a community.

"He was one of our good people, that's why the whole town turned out.

"Blantyre's the kind of place where you know someone who knows someone. You're only a couple of steps away from someone you know.

"Reamonn was a kind, loving lad who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His death is a tragedy. But the march was not about protest, it was peaceful."

The procession, measuring more than a mile long, was led by pals of Reamonn, who had worked with youngsters in the Far East through the Good Child Foundation.

Wearing Celtic shirts bearing his name and the number 19, some carried posters with their pal's photo and banners reading, "Reamonn Gormley: True Gentleman" and "RIP Reamonn. Always love and miss you. You'll Never Walk Alone".

And weeping teens huddled together at the end to sing that song as 19 Chinese lanterns were released.

Two men, aged 22 and 18, arrested in connection with Reamonn's death are due in Hamilton Sheriff Court tomorrow.

The march prompted fresh calls for a crackdown on knife crime. Four men have been killed in Lanarkshire in the past four weeks. Roads boss Brian Stewart, 50, who lives across the street from where Reamonn was killed, said: "I'm scared to leave the house at night. The response to Reamonn's death is overwhelming, a sign that something must change."

    Won't be holding my breath.

Knife crime & random acts of violence are completely embedded in out culture now, have been for ages.

Ultimately it looks like our country is too irresponsible to be trusted with knives.

They are weapons and should be treated as such, if that means every person that buys one of a certain size has to sign a declaration then so be it, the problem isn't going away and more innocent kids will die.
