   The brilliant actress Maggie Smith aka Mrs McGonagall passed away this morning aged 89.

   A sad loss. Hardly a shock as she was 89 years old, but a sad loss, none the less.
   
   She was terrific as much for her dramatic as for the comedic, and literally won Oscars for both, dramatic in the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and got to run her comedic chops in California Suite.
   
   And in later life she still was terrific in The Lady in the Van, stole pretty much every scene she was in with so, so many wickedly biting and snarky one-liners as the matriarch in Downton Abbey (was by far the best thing about that show and movies) and of course Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter movies.
   
   Rest in peace.
