McClaren or Hodgeson sound good to me but the fact they are employed would probably be a problem money wise.

So you're suggesting we go for someone who can't manage on a small budget?

Would be a bit foolish, surely, seeing as how a small budget is what we have.

And what we'll continue to have for as long as we're playing in the SPL.

I am saying Celtic do have cash to spend they choose not to do it. It's a very bad day when Celtic cannot compete with a Championship club for players. This is Celtic remember, Playing in the Champions League and with a masive fan base with sold out season tickets year after year. You can't tell me Celtic do not make money. Ok not o the grand scale of say Man Utd or Milan clubs or even Real but if wer'e not careful we wont even get Champions League football every year.

We seem to b buying guys like Pat McCourt who you really can't tell me he is CL material but cant really comment much as Strachan didn't play him much ( and before you start i know he picked up a injury but when he was injury free he still wasn't in the first team). I just feel Mowbray isn't the answer. Someone with more of a decent pedigree.

I really don't beleive that at all. This may get laughed at but Rijkaard was free and just joined Galatasary he could have been a good shout.

Yeah, we make a fair amount of money, but we also spend a fair amount of money. The amount it takes to run a huge enterprise like Celtic is vastly more than it takes to run our SPL rivals.

In short, we've got all the running expenses that go with being a big football club - and none of the TV revenue. That is our fundamental problem - and that's why we never have that much spare cash to chuck around.

I just see so many folk saying we need to "think big" with our manager - as if getting a manager who's used to working with big budgets would somehow make us have a big budget.

    It's like the old joke:
Q - What's the best way to get rich quick?
A - Buy a Rolls Royce - if you've got one of them you must be rich. :icon_mrgreen:

I think that as we are running out of options and time, (Fast!) and we may have to settle for Mowbray. We will not get much better than him this season so we may as well give him the best chance for him to build a good side. But if the board leave it too late and the manager we get in has no time to strengthen the squad then the last few weeks will have been absolutely pointless. If the board don't get their act together quickly another transfer window will have passed with no improvements to the team thus resulting in alot of fans not renewing their ST etc.

I don't particularly like the fact that Mowbray, a championship manager is the target of this underambitious board, but I feel at this stage he is our only option.

Celtic will always have this kind of problem attracting good managers and players while we are still in the SPL. These past few weeks' events have changed my stance on us going to the EPL. The sooner we get down there the better.:50:

Celtic have cut thier wages over the past few seasons, Plus why would Lawell come out and say Celtic will be spending big next season if that isn't that case? Stupid comment to make in that interview he gave saying Strachan would be back that way. I aint saying Celtic costs are not big but have a better type manager who could maybe get good players at decent prices with their knowledge and connections like Van Basten, Rijkarrd or even Bilic could attract rather than Mowbrey.
I just wish we could get down to the EPL because i firmly beleive we would do well (Not over night of course).

Absolutely - if we were playing in the EPL we would be huge within about five years. Stadium expansion, huge crowds, newly-energised global fanbase.

But while we're still in the SPL, I'm afraid landing guys like van Basten or Rijkaard is a real long shot for us.

Disagree with Rijkaard because if reports were true he threw is hat into the ring early but was blanked.

PISH!!!!!!!!! Its the players on the park that lost us the league. Jan and Samaras couldnt score in a brothel. The midfield, St. Mirren game apart, didn't provide enough back up, when the strikers weren't performing.

If as you say that he lost us the league, does that mean every player who won a league medal during the 3 in a row should hand it back. Coz going by Your logic, Strachan should be the only on getting the medal....coz he won the league
