I really dont get what happened to the opinions of Brown.

On the captain thing it's strange because he's obviously a bit of a hothead but he has a great drive and desire so I hope it proves a good appointment. P.S None of us has the right to question it as Mowbray has worked with him for 3 years and knows what he is like - I'm kind of contradicting myself because I had know idea what Strachen seen in McManus to give him the captaincy.

    Exactly right gunt.

Brown has been unfairly judge on the way he was playing through injury. An injury which was in fact much more serious than any of us knew.

A fully fit Brown will be like a new signing in the middle of the park for us, people will remember that Brown we were all raving about at one time.

    yep

Why are we bringing him back.

If mogga would just let KI get forward and into the box instead of having to sitting mid's we'd be a better team for it but he just seems to lack common sense at times.

after having thoughts about this i have changed my mind about brown being captain. he needs to concentrate on his own game because his performances have dropped off big time.saying that he cant be worse than mcmanus.but who knows,,brown could develop into a leader.he needs to be more vocal though

He was playing with an injury and never recovered properly from it.

In my honest opinion Broon looked better than he was playing next to on form players that covered for his mistakes and won the ball back when he lost it.

The damage done to Broonys reputation among fans through playing him injured is another Mogga black mark IMO. He has gone from POTY (which TC polls agreed with BTW) to being considered rubbish by many fans. It is true that anyone who judges him on this season when he was injured is just looking for any excuse to put him down but playing him injured has given them the excuse to get the knife into Broony and done his popularity no favours.

gunt, Scott Brown hasn't been able to pass a ball for more than 10 yards since he signed for Celtic. He has not chipped in with goals or assists, clever passes, runs into the box late to pick up stray balls, clever movement or anything that could remotely be considered as positive in an attacking sense.

The fact you yourself hold up a 15 minute cameo in Moscow as proof he is a good player says it all.

    Well said completely agree.

I've been consistent from day 1 regarding Brown. Simply don't rate him. Never have done. Because we signed him for £4.4m and people wanted him to be good so badly it completely clouded their judgement of him. What has he ever done for us?

He had five goals and five assists last season btw, Strachan gave him a different role using up his energy to plug the massive gap in between a static defence and a static front two.

He was totally left exposed under WGS tenure and was there as a plug gap.

    He done it well.

Aiden McGeady, who was apparently crap last season whilst Mr Wonderful got POTY, had 5 goals and six assists

I didnt post that on this thread?? I may in the past have pointed to a couple his best games. You can add to that the cup final last year and IMO we would have not made last 16 in the CL without his incredible tracking and fighting. He us mainly a destructive player but with great mobility. We also know from his Hibs time that he can do the box to box thing well if he is given a less tied down role. I know you think he is crap but you got to admit that many see something in him hence he is POTY and EPL managers are on record as taking interest. I think its simply that he has such incredible energy and mobility that he is a destructive MF of a unique type. IN sheer fight and hassling to get the ball off the opposition and tracking he is worth 2 men and that really is an advantage. He has been first name on the sheet even when hobbling about for WGS, Mogga and Burley. There are attributes that people love about the guy. Personally too I think given a more free role of the sort he has for Scotland he will shine more. For Scotland he has had a pair of CMs behind him.

That is a very good summary of his role. :50: That role was always going to limit his ability to do late runs into the box etc. I hope Mogga finds a more free role for him though. He can do the box to box thing well in a more free role.

    Different players, different jobs.

Aiden McGeady has five goals this season and that won't change that much and he is a very attacking player.

The most attacking in our side apart from the strikers.

Can anybody honestly tell me that they think Scott Brown was deployed in an attacking role last season? A player not deployed in an attacking role to come back with 5 goals and 5 assists is decent.

I think quoting those stars doesnt help your case at all. Broony is a destructive CMF. The fact that he had a similar goals and assists rate to Aidan, a winger, is to his credit. If anything that is a decent return for a CM. Personally though I do not think Aidan was bad last season. He added pace, directness and tracking to his game last season. However, the low number of assists for a winger who normally played is pretty shocking TBH. I had no idea it was that low. That in itself explains why Aidan wasnt in the running. As far as I remember on TC polls it was Broony and Caldwell well ahead (in line with the actual awards) with Hinkel a distant third. Broony got POTY because he was very consistant. I do not know where all the Broony hate has come from. Most people here had Broony and Caldwell as the top men but a few months into Moggas reign they are pariahs. Crazy when a fit Broony has had no game time since his POTY season.

He was played as the furthest forward midfielder of the two CM's, usually with someone like Hartley behind him, of course he was in an attacking role.

Scott Brown has much more good parts to his game than bad. People judge him unfairly because he was playing through an injury. His stamina, tackling and in general hassling opponents are fantastic. His passing can be a big suspect at times but I fell being captain will be the making of Scott Brown.
