Aye, it would work for both the player and the club. These oral agreements are never gonna be worth it in the end. Look at Van Dijk at Southampton, too just last season. The player eventually left, but he basically downed tools for 6 months to do so...

if thats the case why let him and his reps speak to lyon ?

i mean if you have no intention of selling him why let him talk to them ? doesnt make sense does it ?

so its us playing hard ball! we want top dollar and he can go, if lyon dont meet our asking price then we dont allow him to talk to them

or it seems the players think that the fee that celtic are recieving is good and fair enough but should they be the ones dictating how much we recieve in transfer fees when we sell them ?

Do we know if talks really happened or if we gave them the go ahead to do so?

    Aye that can’t be argued..

However, the position we’re in just noŵ regardless of who’s fault it is, we should hang on to him..

And as the Bunnet used to say. ‘There’s no such thing as a verbal agreement in business’..

Hail Hail the Celts are here
As much as it pains to see him leave, this lad chose Celtic over other clubs, including Spurs. He may not have started many at Spurs and his profile may not be where it is now - but the point is he chose Celtic.

He put his faith in Rodgers and our club to improve him and no doubt he was ensured a bigger move would come.

This move has now come for him. I had hoped better than a Lyon or Marseille for him, but it’s his native country, hence the attraction?

Losing the CL group qualification has certainly not helped our case for him to stay.

Rodgers and the powers that be seem to have lost his trust. His recent post seems to allude to that, aswell as liking Sutton’s comments on it.

He was a coup for us, straight out of left field, and the people at the club look to be tarnishing what should have been a warm and sincere farewell, with many thanks.

This episode is compounding an already dire chain of events that have clouded over Parkhead recently. And like someone posted earlier, we can’t afford to be gaining a reputation for preventing good young players develop elsewhere.

Where would the next Dembele come from if this reputation manifests itself?

Also, Rodgers’ reputation is slowly getting chipped away. It appears he’s getting desperate to hold a nucleus of players, and who can blame him, it’s his job. But the profile of the Boyata shambles and now this, will not be sitting comfortable with BR surely?

Suitable reinforcements would have prevented all this panic button play, but we’re all sick of talking about that now.

It’s unbelievable how quickly the club morale has changed. We need a great win on Sunday, kick off from there, and get number 8 in the bag, and forget the beginning of this season ever existed.

I'd imagine Celtic would have targets that they've approached but their clubs have done exactly what Celtic have done and said they can't replace so late in the window.

It doesn't help when Rodgers is constantly saying that these guys will all move on eventually for bigger money to better leagues and that they come for two year cycles, and then decides they actually cant go when the offers come in.

I think Moussa has his head screwed on a lot more than Boyata, he’s clearly * that either he never got his move when Rodgers said he would move on after 2 years here.

Then he knows there’s no pointing refusing to play like Boyata, he just needs to keep working away and he could get a bigger move come January.

This is turning into a * soap opera.

He’a been contradicting himself almost every * press conference, makes him look like a muppet and will slowly lose respect in the dressing room.

When your clubs transfer policy is built on signing young talent, bringing them in and get them winning trophies and playing a European football to develop and promising to sell them on for a big payday after a couple of years it’s not a good idea to suddenly start blocking moves because your pals a lazy * who doesn’t actually do any scouting.

As Maguire said, Young French talent would have been desperate to come here and develop over the last 18 months. Start breaking promises and blocking moves is * idiotic.

Title of article stated he was gonna sign a new 4 year deal, hence my original impression.

    This.

Thought it was interesting every single player including Gordon celebrated with Boyata last week as well. Especially after he was thrown under the bus by Rodgers twice...

I think that was more to do with the banner and crowds reaction than Rodgers though, players all celebrated with Griff tonight as well.

    We are a * omnishambles!

If Dembélé wants to talk about a real man keeping his word, someone should remind him that he signed a four-year contract with Celtic. If he were to suffer a career-ending injury tomorrow, would he terminate his contract? Would he *!

Whoever is in charge of player recruitment - Congerton, Lawwell, Rodgers - can get to * now.

The signing of a free agent and a loanee on the final day of the transfer window does not come close to rectifying the absolute * farce in which we now find ourselves.
