The fact is though, he didn't cost 2 million. And in terms of value for money, we were mugged. A near £4 million player should have done a lot better in Scotland in my honest opinion. Admittedly, he played in a poor Celtic team, but he was also quite poor in that side. Hesselink was a far better signing, and delivered more. And that was him feeding off crosses from Lee Naylor (2nd season). A good ball in the box, and I would fancy Big Jan any day. And I would take him any day over Fortune. Just my opinion though.

The team just never performed then though, there was transition between Strachan's one dimentional 442 which had been in use for years and Mowbray trying to implement a more free passing and possession game, getting rid of the old guard and introducing new players, there was really no chance for it to gel or that, players were being dropped or played * nilly as he tried to change us but we dropped too many points and he was sacked.

Fortune if he'd remained would have gone on to be a very good player for us. Especially in the way Lennon has us playing which allows a lot of players forward and linking up in the final 3rd. We never really got playing that in Mowbray's season as some players were new to each other and others were still stuck in playing the Strachan dull flat 442 way.

Fortune would have been well capable of playing on the left/right as the main striker or in behind a main striker and done well in either role in the past 3 seasons.

Im a fan of Stokes but I would have rathered or would even go back now and have kept Fortune and never signed Stokes.

Henrick Larson. People underestimated him by saying he is the king. No he was a *.

I don't think Agathe was under-rated. He was lightning quick but he was a limited footballer.

He was an incredible defender but, which is often overlooked.

I agree. But mind we played 4-4-2 for Martin O'Neill's last two years? McNamara played left back and was probably the first name on the team sheet. Although Lambert was club captain he hardly played towards the end so it was usually Jackie Mac who captained the team. He was magnificent particularly in the 03/04 season.

It's weird that defending ended up being the best part of his game considering he was regarded as a striker when we bought him.

Aye, wouldnt say McNamara was under-rated he was top drawer.

Can remember a game, think it was against Hibs at the start or end of a season just remember it was sunny that he scored a double, think they were both in the first half from left-back... I think he was playing left-back in that game but I remember him playing more like a centre-mid in it.

Something that Martin O'Neill spotted that others just didn't. His timing of the tackle was spot on and still to this day one of the best slide tacklers I've seen in the game.

His pace made him handy going forward, Zambrotta still has nightmares.

Aye, no-one ever got past him he just backed off them waiting for them to try and run past them and when they tried it he just ran, slided the ball off them, always done that wee hooked slide tackle, were he flicked the ball forward sprung up and charged up the park with it leaving players for dead. Quite sad to think we'll never see the likes of it again.

Kelvin wilson. I liked the guy as soon as we signed him and always thought he'd make it.

Ki. Think he got a lot of unfair criticism and he would have been a great asset this season where our biggest problem in the spl was breaking down teams who parked the bus.

Niall McGinn. He was scoring * before he left and wasn't on a lot of wages. Would rather we kept him than someone like McCourt. Really liked him as a player.

Pearson had one of the best individual performances I have seen a Celtic player put in, against Barcelona.

He was great that night. He got us back in the game in the 3-2 game at Tynecastle as well
