Totally agree, felt he wasn't given enough time, and if he had another season with us, could've done really well. Scored a couple belters as well.

Think Neil Lennon was under rated as a player by quite a few people.

Scored some screamers and some important ones. His link up play was good too though, still shows it down in the Premiership.

I agree with you, Fortune was a good footballer with good hold up play, he was also superb at turning players at the edge of the box and created a lot of chances.

We should have kept him imo, he was/is better than Samaras. Might not have scored enough goals but hed have been good for a consistant 15 or so a season. I think he was actually better than JVOH in the targetman role.

Not by us obviously, But I think Adam Matthews is one of the most underrated players in Britain. Could easily hold in own in the Premiership yet many in England say they haven't seen him play much

Jackie McNamara. Cracking full-back who could easily have played at a higher level in my opinion.

I obviously don't regret Martin O'Neill's arrival at Celtic, or what he did once he got here, but one of the few sad aspects of O'Neill's time in charge was that a large chunk of Jackie Mac's career got wasted. With Celtic playing a 3-5-2 formation the opportunities for Jackie to get a game were very limited and Martin O'Neill obviously preferred Didier Agathe's raw pace to Jackie's superior footballing ability in the wing back position. So Jackie was restricted to a handful of appearances at centre-back or in central midfield and neither of those positions ever suited him. Jackie deserved to be a lot more than just a fill in player for 3-4 seasons.

Ironically I think Jackie would have really prospered in the system that Gordon Strachan played if he had been a bit younger and stayed on at Celtic.

Paul Hartley. Him and Robson in at centre mid in 07/08 season were sensational. Done a great job for us in the latter stage of his career IMO.

Was given a few chances to compete for the No.1 spot by WGS, however he conceded too many goals. Went on loan to Norwich and was pretty good, before being sold to Cardiff for a couple of hundred thousand if memory serves me correctly.

    Definitely a cracking keeper now.

He was better than him when he played up front and played better than him at the start of the 2010-11 season when Samaras played left and he played right in the 4-2-3-1.

Fans never took to him because the price tag and his lack of goalscoring but he has never been a goalscorer, same as Samaras. His link-up play, movement and ball control around the box was all very good, he could beat players and had very good final ball. Was also very good at winning balls in the air and holding it up.

A front pairing of Fortune and Hooper would have been deadly and very capable in Europe. A step or two up fron Jan and McDonald who done well.

I don't think Fortune is even close to JVOH in all honesty. A front pairing of Hooper and Hesselink would have been absolutely superb in my opinion. And certainly capable in Europe.

I think Fortune was better than Jan. Jan was too slow, although he was great in the air and scored a few goals he was quite limited on the deck and up against defenders who were good in the air he struggled because he never offered much movement or anything. It made our team too one dimensional and limited to running down the wings and crossing.

Fortune would offer a lot more, better on the ball, much quicker, better movement and he was still good in the air and a decent targetman. He added depth to the team with the ability to not only perform the targetman role in the middle, but to drop deep and invite the midfield in, allow a Hooper to go beyond him and he could pull out wide beat players and get the ball in.

If Fortune only cost £2million he'd still be here.

I noticed on here recently a few Tims wanting Arouna Kone yet we once had basically a replica in Fortune and people didnt like him.
