Thats a good point, I suppose It is really about perspective. At the time, England never had the greatest league, nothing like it does now, therefore Cantona probably shone amongst the lesser players. However as a footballing whole and when comparing him to players playing in La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga and in the CL, it is clear to see Cantona's caliber.

Ask any Premiership manager which player that would pick out of that list and 90%+ would say Giggs and for a good reason.

Ljungberg and Pires better than Giggs at their peak is a nonsense statement, purely because Giggs hasn't had a peak - he has been world class for 15 years+ whereas Ljungberg and Pires 'peaked' for 2 seasons then their careers were effectively over at the top level.

Depends on what you are looking for

How many of those players mentioned could still get a game at a club like United 22 years into their career and still pop up with a goal or 2?

Because they watched him every week. Rio Ferdinand was a superb defender at his peak. Twice the player John Terry was.

Robert lewandowski. Not saying he isn't a great striker, but since he scored 4 against real you have people calling him a lethal finisher etc, when he certainly is not.

Great crosser of the ball and obvioulsy a great freekick taker but not the great player he was made out to be, a good player yes but not great or world class IMO.

Was more obsessed with lifestyle than football after he left Man U

Theres no doubt he was a very good player and has had great longevity but was he ever that great?

The most memorable thing of his career is a goal he scored in 1999 against Arsenal. Maybe unfair as he's never played at an International tournament but I cant think of him ever having a great season or a consistant spell of great form or stand out games where he slaughtered the opposition.

For me he was a good Steady Eddie hard working and decent skilled player who played for a long time but never world class or one of the best players even at Man Utd never mind in England or Europe.

Has he ever scored a hat-trick or ever ripped the pish out a top team like many/most all world class players have done atleast once if not multiple times?

What was his stand out season or when was he ever the best Man Utd player? dont think hes ever had one or ever been.

To be called great or world class then you need to have had time periods of greatness or stand out moments - ie. Bale V Inter, Bale the past couple of seasons.

I know, if you ask a united fan they'll have you believe every cross was a peach and every freekick ended up in the back of the net :smiley-laughing002:

That's what Man United fans do tbh. They overrate so many players its laughable.

I think Samir Nasri at Manchester City is very over rated. Not surprised they've signed a winger.

I wouldn't call him overrated, surely most City fans would see him for what he is: an expensive flop.

Depends what defines World Class for yourself. For me, World Class is being up their with the very best which he isn't even close to.

Maldini, Brehme, Lahm etc. Cole hasn't got a patch on those players.

2 good seasons and one mediocre one in the SPL. Before couldn't get a game for AC Milan (despite what the Daily Ranger says) and after looked like a fish out of water at Chelsea.
    The faded into obscurity.
Yet people in Scotland rave about him.... Bobby Petta had 2 good seasons in Scotland!

Beckham was World Class for me. Amazing talent.
