    We need someone to push Starfelt and CCV..not just act as back up.

    As a club with aspirations to be UCL regulars again we should have more than 2 CBs we can trust. Starfelt is also currently injured and there's no way him and CCV will last a 65 game season unscathed again.

    Not to say this guy couldn't come in and be unreal but I did expect a bit better.

    Literally no * is expecting Maldini either. But even as stats (the king nowadays) goes, this guy is underwhelming.

    He was, statistically, the best CDM last season outside the top 5 leagues - by a considerable margin. And he was playing in the top flight in Belgium.

    If he was Belgian or Welsh or Serbian it wouldn't have changed anyone's opinion on him.

    Davies is 6ft 1 so hardly "small" and anytime I've seen him I thought he looked a decent player and there's a reason we obviously looked at him originally too. Judging him on one loan spell is idiotic.

    Its not entitled at all to discuss transfers.

    There are numerous examples of players where, for whatever reason, it hasn't quite worked out for them at a particular club, yet a change of scenery/manager/system/whatever has seen notable improvements. This can especially be the case with younger players. Like every player in the squad, this guy will know exactly what his role is within the system. Perhaps that clarity coupled with hopefully better coaching will lead to those improvements.

    Ange has shown a pretty strong grasp of which players work within his system. Kyogo, Hatate, CCV, JJ, Jota, O'Riley, who was signed from a lower level and was generally less well known - not just good players, but all players who fit really well. How many times did you hear at the start of last season that there was no way that Rogic could play in a high tempo, high-pressing side? Yet Ange knew how to use him effectively.

    Also worth considering that it's not like this is the end of the window and we're scrambling around after our first 300 targets have turned us down. It's early-ish in the window, the squad is in a good enough place, there are no qualifiers to stress about. What that tells me is that this guy (if we sign him) and Mooy are players who Ange wants, not desperation signings.

    The Maldini comment was a joke, but yeah, I do think a lot of those unhappy with this signing have unrealistic expectations. Mostly in the sense that CCV and Starfelt are clearly our starting CBs, so just how good a player are we meant to be signing to sit on the bench? Yeah there's Champions League to think about and injuries can happen, but Ange showed by not playing Jullien at all last season, that CCV and Startfelt is the pairing he's going with. They have a full season of playing the system and with this group. And Starfelt's another who was signed specifically to fit into Ange's system. We didn't spend £4million+ on him on a whim, to be replaced after a year right after showing signs of becoming a really solid player for us.

    I'm happy to trust Ange's judgement on this stuff until which point there are clear signs that his judgement is off.
