AUSTRIAN internationalist, Moritz Bauer who has joined the Hoops on a season-long loan from Stoke City can’t wait to take to the pitch with his new team-mates.

The Swiss-born right-back has sampled some big-game action before in a career that has seen him play with Grasshoppers of Zurich, and Rubin Kazan in the Russian Premier League before experiencing life down south in the Premier League and the Championship with Stoke.

The new Bhoy comes in as his team-mates get set for a crucial few days with two important games on the immediate horizon – AIK of Stockholm in the Europa League play-off second leg in Sweden tomorrow night (Thursday), and the shorter trip to Ibrox on Sunday for the first Glasgow derby of the 2019/20 season.

The 27-year-old told Celtic TV: “I will probably be the biggest supporter ever for the game tomorrow and it couldn’t be any bigger for Celtic. When I signed for Stoke, four days later I played at Old Trafford and I thought that couldn’t be any bigger. But now, with probably the biggest derby in the world coming up, it looks absolutely amazing.

“Let’s see how this week goes, but I'm just buzzing for the atmosphere and to be part of the team.”

He added: “It’s a massive club with a big history and when you see the stadium from the outside and the players there who have already worn the jersey - they are big names.

“Then there are the legendary nights in the Champions League and the fans who are an absolutely amazing support.

“My Mum always said she wanted to visit Anfield and Celtic Park at least once in her life, I played at Anfield with Stoke and now I'm at Celtic Park and I'm really buzzing for her.

The defender is also looking forward to the expectations of playing for the Celtic when every single game is there to be won.

He said: “It’s pressure, of course, but I think there’s nothing better than playing for trophies, because that’s what it’s all about, as having a season target of finishing about eighth is not the same.

“I love being here and having the target of being first and I like that pressure. There are players here who have already won titles, and it’s a big opportunity for me to learn from them and grow as a player as I hope to be part of a successful team.

“I'm a very attacking full-back and an energetic player who gets up and down the wing. My dynamics are pace and power. It depends on what the coach demands from the team, but as I am a defender, I obviously have to defend as well, but I like to get involved in the attack also.”

I am quite happy with this tbh. Haven’t seen him recently but I remember seen him play not long after he joined Stoke and I thought he looked really decent. Pacey, good engine on him and can cross a ball.

Unless he has went majorly downhill I think this will be a good signing.

Still more work to do though…

    Welcome!

Here's hoping you do well and are worth signing proper after a year.

Stoke seem to be trying to rebuild with young players. Tom Edwards has played rb/rwb he's a 20 year old england u20 international. Possible reason he hasn't been selected rather than purely down to ability/performances.

Just seen his interview. Seems like a top lad. Smart, well-spoken with a beautiful blonde hair. All the attributes that make for a sensational right back. Welcome Moritz.

I like Tom Edwards. Watched him in several games and he looks a very good player.

I've read the article, and I'm happy to have a RB- I don't even have a big reason to think Bauser is *. But, a permanent signing is the way to go, to give some mid-term stability to our defense.

I know a Stoke fan who I 100% trust his judgement and he goes all games home and away and lives and breathes his team.

Says he's fantastic foing forward but is let down defensively being caught out of position and there have been rumblings about him causing trouble.

Take from the above what you want

I'll hold my judgement we signed a guy who only had one cap and thought was a centre back... Turn out to be a very decent option at right back
