After years of frustration with Strachan (not an anti-GS thread, I know he done alot with very little) im feeling rather optimistic about how we will shape up in the near future. The thing with GS is I always felt we were going sideways, I didn't see any plan forming.
I always said that I would give Mogga at least 2 transfer windows before I truly judge him and its refreshing that he recognises the weak links and surplus in our side and is seemingly doing a complete overhaul were he can hopefully bring in the type of players that will suit the kind of football he wants us to play, while shoring up our defence.
We are in a good position financially, only made sweeter by the nick the monkeys are in.
And we are pioneering a new style of youth development based on technique, which we will reap mass benefits from albeit maybe 5-10 years before this is truly noticable.
We have a few Gems in our youth set up, Forrest, Feruz and thats without adding those signed by Mogga in the summer.
In terms of his "short term pain for long term gain" attitude, im not saying im willing to see the huns win the league 4 years in a row or anything of the sort, but will put up with bumpy form if I can see where we are going long term and I am willing to allow Mogga to sensibly add to his side in increments and bring through youngsters.

I expect to start and see things click in to place around the end of this season, about March/April time. Then we'll kick on from there for next season.

to be fair he said at west brom that he had a five year plan. that was one of the main reasons that their fans were so annoyed at him for leaving.
good to hear him talking in terms of long term planning as obviously continuaty is a plus but theres no guarentees.
giving him the benefit of the doubt i think he definately has the team moving in the right direction. we're playing some great stuff at times and if we were taking the chances we're creating then the amount of goals we've been giving away wouldn't be much of an issue. he has made moves to rectify the defensive shortcomings so it seems he sees what we see. -
This is the way I see it:
With money in football spiraling out of control, only the teams in the best leagues are able to buy the best players. Soon,if not now already even the teams at the bottom of leagues like the EPL are able to out-bid us for players who show any promise.
Our best bet is to buy players who are probably average/good players but have age on there side and can only get better (eg.Crosas,Nguemo,Fox,Samras,etc).
These players may not be great players but all have time on their side and time to improve parts of their game they are lacking. We have to realise we are never going to be able to compete for players of real quality unless they are 30+.
Buying 4+ players every season who are 30+, who can do a job for us short term and then our team needs patched up again a few seasons later, is not the way forward. We will fall further and further behind in terms of being able to compete for quality players, therefor we need to buy players who can become quality when a few parts of their game is improved or tweaked.
Alot of Celtic fans seems to think this way - New Manager, if he doesnt win us the leauge on his first attempt = try another manager. We can't always get success instantly, I think if we give Tony time then he will take us in the right direction. I personally would give Tony at LEAST next season to prove himself, the players he is going to be playing the majority of the season with - are NOT players he personally has picked.
Give Tony time and I think we will be a dominant force in the SPL in years to come - and why not with our rivals in trouble. -

I'm not sure if no reserve league will help or hinder him.
He's getting rid of fringe players who have no hope of progressing, guys who would have stayed to win reserve leagues rather than progress into 1st team.
This frees up a lot of wages, Flood & Killen are just the start - letting them go without a fee shows this process in action.
Downside is how can we tell how well they are doing & if they are ready for advancement into the 1st team. Lacny scored against Everton & we didn't go for him, how will we tell if Misun for example should be put in the team?
We'll have to hope he's got the training well sorted, but I'm encouraged so far. -
We need to win it this year end of, We cant have the huns winning and taking on the money, we have a golden chance to put the boot in, about time we take it and dont * up like last year.
As for reserve leauge it should have stayed, kept all the younger lads / fringe players up to match fitness -
I wonder what is at the end of the 5 year plan! Win Champions League? 5 in a row ?

We don't need to win the League this year. We want to win it.
The huns need to win it much more than we do.
If we had to, I'd take losing the League to them this year if we were well on the way to becoming a good team (as against mediocre). We could march on from that for several years.
In saying that, don't think we will lose it to them -
I think we are SLOWLY making progress but I fear we may not quite have progressed to take title back this year. I hope the board have learned lessons under Strachan (Who I welcomed when he first came). It was crystal clear that Srachan was sexing up his assesment on the teams displays ( and making a fool of the fans who were watching * poor performances) and his continued policy of buying mediocre squad player after squad player was fully supported by the board bcoz he was nt spending a lot of cash. Tony Mowbray is now left with the mess and we are moving forward all be it slowly. Wattys team are * BUT they are organized n hard to break down. We will drop points and so will they , so it may well come down to the 2 games with them and its very hard to predict the outcome of these games. Tony has made mistakes ( slagging the players in public) some strange substitutions but recently I feel things have settled down . 1 thing that has nt been mentioned much, He has also had a heluva lot of bad luck! Big decisions going against us possibly cost us points against that lot. Games we should have easily won were lost due to continuing individual errors so I would say win or lose the league (VERY PAINFUL I KNOW) He needs 2 seasons to be properly judged :bbpd:

we are def better following wengers way.even he realises arsenal are in a similar position to us.where we keep getting out bid by bottom epl teams he suffers against the likes of chelsea,plus over inflated prices.just keep looking for the top young players from countries of a similar standing to us like sweden and czech.cos thats the top young players from asia and sweden on our books.i would rather have them than the top young brits like naismith,whitiker and laugherty costing the huns about 7mil

5 yr plan! sorry mate if the team doesnt look good by the end of this season am not sure people willing to wait 4 years to win one league title.

most fans on here wanted to sacrifice winning with dull displays at times for more excitement so if we dont win the title this year i hope they are not on slating everyone ,we have already found that attacking football dont always work when you are limited financially and have to make do with wot you can afford as we have found against the huns,no point talking about decisions against us as we created enough chances.
i believe we should build from the back it should always be the strongest part of your team reason being if you concede first you are much more open for counter attacks ,then sort the rest .
but to the op mogga should get 2 years to win the title. -

i agree he should get 2 years to win it.but i do think we can win with playing attacking football.we do have the players going forward its the defence thats cost us,which tm is now looking to put right.cos at the end of the day nearly every league point dropped if not every one we have scored in the game and mostly been leading and cruising (utd and hearts away pplus last huns game) when we have gave away silly goals. -
I think the idea of the plan is to put us in a position where we are producing top young players for the first team.
We all know we can't go out and buy top players, so let's try and nurture young talent into top professionals. Thats the plan.
It's about creating a new culture at the club that will hopefully benefit us in years to come. -
I think Mowbray should be offered time... losing games and potentially the title is tough to take but trying to look at the bigger picture I think giving him time is the right thing to do. I also think if we got rid of TM too quick we would struggle to get a quality manager in to replace him.
My only worry is that we return to the early 90s where we play attractive football but win nothing. I am encouraged by his approach to signings etc. though... as others have said above I hated Strachan's squad players. -

I just get fed up with the idea WGS was some sort of problem when he brought us more success than anyone since Stein. Its also obvious that cheap players were bought because the board wouldnt spend the money. WGS was a world class player himself who played for Man U, has an EPL winners medal, international legend, has a cup winners cup medalm a supercup medal and several SPL titles and cup medals etc etc. He has managed in the EPL. He knows what quality is and what a journeyman is. Do people seriously think he actually thinks Killen, Flood etc are quality. These were and are again a matter of economics.

Mate I agree with you, infact I very rarely disagree with you - you talk alot of sense.
I think WGS did a cracking job, one thing he could have improved on is working towards the future a little - instead of just success when he was there. Look what he's left us with, he got the players to make him successful as a manager for a short period of time, but it was never going to last - this is why we're clearing out now. Again, I do agree with what your saying though.
