I said during the transfer market we needed wingers as we look threadbare on both flanks, wingers are part of our style and brand of football. Granted he’s not the finished product but puts a good shift in most games he plays. Just hope his injuries are behind him and he can kick on.

 

Will genuinely be like a new signing when he's back. He's been out for a long time, hopefully he's used that time to gain a bit of strength. We have really missed his directness and trickery. I would put him straight into the team.

 

Will be great to get him back. I sincerely hope he's not going to have continued problems with injuries as he's a great talent.

 

He's potentially a very important player for us, he's fast, tricky and direct. We are always better playing at pace and away from sideways, backwards slow build up.
Getting both Mikey and Forrest into the squad will allow us to be on the front door much more often, as Jock Stein often said, the best place to defend is in your opponents half.

 

That's is very true. However I'd atleast like to defend in any half because right now we dont do either

 

Be dissapointed if he hasnt used this time to work on his upper body! Really exciting player but needs to bulk up a bit

 

Mikey Johnston is on course to make his long awaited return from injury in Tuesday’s Reserve Cup Final against Aberdeen at Cormack Park.

The winger required knee surgery after being injured during a substitute appearance against St Johnstone in January.

Johnston has been pictured in training at Lennoxtown over the last month, Video Celts understands that he is scheduled to make his first appearance of the season on Tuesday against Aberdeen’s reserve side.

The return of a genuine winger will be a welcome boost to the Celtic squad that has been light on width since James Forrest picked up an ankle injury in September.

Moi Elyounoussi and Ryan Christie have been played out wide in recent weeks but both are most comfortable cutting inside while Johnston has the trickery to go outside and hit the by-line.


Last season Johnstone featured in 21 matches, scoring five goals across the SPFL, Betfred Cup and Europa League.






Tuesday’s League Cup Final is held over from last season with Celtic beating Hibs in the semi-final

 

Made his comeback against Rangers today.

 

Hopefully will make the Scottish cup final , good option, even on the bench

 

Hopefully he plays against Aberdeen tomorrow too.


Then back for the weekend.

 

Would give him 20 mins on Thursdays if he’s allowed to be added to squad.

 

Agreed. Not sure if he is eligible for Thursday but if he is for sure I would bring him on in the second half for 20-30 minutes. For sure needs to be on the bench and coming on against Kilmarnock on Sunday. We so badly need a boost and some energy and creativity on the flanks right now.

 

We're dearly in need of wingers and pace in the side, sooner he's back involved the better, whether he'll ever be able to stay fit for a real run of games is sadly in question though.

 

Be interesting to see if he can link up with Laxalt.

We need him, which is weird to say considering he has never made the position his own.
We need a direct winger who's gonna run at teams.
To pull players out of position and create space for others.

The thing is, as excited as I have been for mikey and as much as I think we are needing his type, we can say the same for the likes sof Turnbull in the middle of the pitch.

Can anyone actually see this current manager doing the right thing to play the lad?

Far too often we get treated to the soundbites of "not match fit"
If Turnbull, who started the first 6 games of the season at Motherwell is deemed not match fit the week after signing for us, then what chance has Mikey got who's been injured since February?
Won't see the lad till either next season or Lennon gets to *.
And honestly I'm not sure which one comes first.

We definitely miss him..

The stats just before his injury last season back that up..

Rapid, can beat a man and create/finish..

We hardly have any of those types..

 

Him and Forrest missing has had a huge impact. The rest are just back passers.

 

I like Mikey as a player but honestly feel that anycunt in our squad right now is gonna be putting in sub-par performances with the tactics, morale and confidence at rock bottom in the changing room.
