    NEIL Lennon has admitted that Mikey Johnston’s hip and groin injury is starting to cause him concern – but stressed the Celtic winger is not expected to be sidelined long-term.

    Johnston was a regular starter for the Scottish champions during the opening weeks of the 2019/20 campaign.

    However, the 20-year-old limped off towards the end of the 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox at the start of last month and hasn’t featured for the treble treble winners since.

    Lennon had hoped the Scotland Under-21 player would have returned to training before now.


    Mikey is still out and still struggling with the hip and groin area,” he said. “It’s a bit of a concern. He’s been out since the Rangers game and we’ve missed him, that dynamism, at times.

    “He’s a bit frustrated as it’s been so slow, but it’s not going to be long term. We were hoping he’d be back after three weeks, but it’s been more of a slow burner.


    “It’s nearly doubled the time we were hoping he’d be back on the training ground.”

    His ability isn’t in question but it will take time for his body to adjust to the rigours of first team football with us..

    That is probably pretty fair in terms of him physically being up to playing games week in week out. The sooner we get him back though the better. He has been missed big time.

    He's been doing well but let's be honest until Mo leaves he's on the bench from now on in with the odd appearance here and there.

    Brilliant developing talent since his early days but way way off the standard of Mo.

    Both player's add a lot to our play..

    Mikey has been one of our best player's at the start of the season..

    They can both play in the same side as well. I wouldn't be against Christie dropping back now and again and Mikey or Elyounoussi playing in the 10..

    Absolutely we play more then enough games for the 2 to get plenty of games. Plus Johnson is still clearly finding his way as a first team regular so its good to have a more experienced player there this season alongside him for that spot.
