This kid has huge potential, already has the pace, skill and ability as a winger, if he adds goals and that quality needed in the final 3rd he’ll be one of our best players.

It’s imperitive to start giving him and Morgan more game time to get then improving.

Has had too many chances and doesn’t turn up 9/10 games, needs benched.

Outstanding goal, but I thought he looked lost up front, but on the wing is where we hopefully see the best of him.

Some bit of skill to find space for the goal. Hopefully we see some more of him.

Mikey Johnston netted Celtic’s third against Motherwell on Wednesday night, his parents celebrated in the Players’ Lounge at Paradise. On as a first-half substitute for Odsonne Edouard, the 19-year-old’s wonder-strike marked his first competitive goal for the Hoops, and, after the match, he could hardly contain his excitement.

“It was a good goal, and I’m happy with it,” he said. “It was my first competitive goal, I’ve been waiting a while to get it, so I’m buzzing to get off the mark. It had been playing on my mind, that I’d need to get that first goal out of the way, so I’m happy to get it. I didn’t even realise it’d hit the net at the time!”

Johnston admitted that while he prefers playing in a wider role, he’s happy to play as and where required for the Scottish champions, as he works hard behind-the-scenes and continues to grow and learn from the club’s more senior players.

He added: “My preferred position is as a winger, but I can definitely play up front if that’s where I’m asked to play. You never know, I might not play. It doesn’t matter who plays, but I need to keep working hard at training and earn the right to play.

“I play where I’m told, and as long as I’m getting games, I don’t mind. I’m taking everything day-by-day, I’ll work hard to try and try to earn a place in the team. If I can get in playing striker then that’s fine, if I’m playing elsewhere, it doesn’t matter to me.

"All the players are good to me. Everyone is looking after me and giving me advice. I’m just trying to take bits of inspiration from everyone and keep learning.”

As for Johnston’s family, they were just as delighted with his goal as he was.

“My family were up in the Players’ Lounge, and a few of the boys said they were going mental,” he said. “I’m buzzing! My mum and my dad, Robert and Janette, were there. They drove me everywhere when I was younger, up to games in Inverness, the whole lot. They’ve been brilliant.”

Never actually realised at the time that it was his first competitive goal for us. Remembered him scoring a few months ago but it was against Standard Liege.

    First of many.

I don't really know much about MJ and thought that he might not get there with us but he took his goal really well and seemed lively.....I look forward to his progress and hope he turns out to be a top player for us.....hail, hail Mikey.

Big believer in this guy. And that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that he goes on to become a massive star and key player for us in my Football Manager 19 season... :fear:

Big believer also but too lightweight to be really effective yet. Should speak to Ryan Christie regarding beefing himself up, I suspect he's at least a year away from a regular first team place
