Totally agree. It is clear there is talent there for him to be a player who can contribute in our squad. But equally you can see he is completely out of confidence. Best thing IMHO would be to send him out on loan next season and hopefully he can regain his confidence and come back a player who can play a role for us.

Really? I feel like if anything folk treat Turnbull like he's a lot older because of the standards he's set.

A loan could well finish his career. He's made of chocolate and currently has the luxury of playing for a club that can accommodate his absences / rehab (in the hope that it will all come good one day). A loan club wouldn't protect him as we do - I think he'd be broken fairly quickly!

If Rogic passes the ball well instead of straight at the defender when he’s clean through on goal we do the same. When you have no confidence that seems to happen, feel for him so much.

I really rate him and thought he was going to be great for us. I think his lack of progress and confidence is all down to lack of game time due to the injuries. At some point though Celtic are going to have to cut their losses and let him go if the injuries keep coming. We can't go on paying a player who virtually never plays. Feel very sorry for him but don't know what the answer is. Forrest was a bit like this at his age and quite suddenly under Deila the injuries stopped (but seem to have come back now) - hopefully that will happen for Mikey.

Bad decision making. Does too much, skins a player then gets room for the cross, opts to turn back to try skin the player again then possession lost. Jota showed him how it was done as soon as he came on. Message to him should be cut the crap and get the head up.

I've definitely seen comments referring to his age and inexperience as a way to defend some of his poorer games or traits as a footballer. Obviously, that's fine as he is a young footballer. But with Johnston it's always "he isn't a young guy anymore" etc. Often discounting his injury issues and the fact he's played approximately 55 fewer first-team games as a footballer (90 minutes). It's the lack of consistency.

As for standards, I see your comment though. For example, Jota is the same age as both of them and I don't think I've ever seen people refer to him as a young guy or whatever - such as the standards he has set.

In fairness he had that type of chance in a dead rubber European game and made a total * of it. I was a big fan but injuries and now a total lack of confidence has taken its toll.

He needs to go somewhere he’ll play (if he stays fit) because that’s just not going to be here.

Was gutted for him going off yesterday about greeting because he looked like a guy who knew his chances of making it here were all but done.

He started off lively and one thing he never does...is hide....like the senior shitebag on the right last night..

I noticed his head go down as soon as he tried to win a corner and it went off him for a goal kick. Happened a couple time's first half where it kept * up down his side and his head was gone..

Just don’t see that at all mate, it’s way too far gone now.

If he can’t play a single game for Celtic without coming off injured what difference will a loan make?

It’s his actual career that’s at stake now as just opposed to his Celtic one because he’s no longer a young player and he’s wholly unreliable.

I'm just loathed to write him off at 22..

There's been a real desperation in his play an over eagerness to fulfill his potential..

    Hampered by injury after injury..

If he was to go into a an Aberdeen or Hibs for a season, play regularly who knows what may happen..

It may be wishful thinking but it would be worth a shot I feel.

Contracted to 2025 too, what have we got to lose.

Don't think anyone wants write him off but the amount of long term injuries he's picked up already so early into his career says to me he'll unfortunately never make it here.

Not a high bar but he was our best player in the first half. Only real spark of creativity showing, did dip after about 30 mins.

Thought he was really poorly supported by midfield, Hatate in particular.

Must be really difficult for him at present.

Genuine question would he even get a game for a hibs or Aberdeen ? Maybe at the moment because both clubs are in a bit of a state but similar to Montgomery who granted is younger I just don't think there anywhere near the level

He just simply has to go out on loan next season.

He really should have been sent out last month, but I dare say, Ange has a liking for him (certainly after hearing what Hart said about him being a talent) and realises that as great as Jota is and the depth we have across the front line, we actually don't have anyone else other than Jota as a dedicated left winger.

The constant little injuries that end up building up to a regular prolonged time out is just mental.

It happened with Forrest as well, took deila to come in and get him on to a dedicated fitness regime and basically build him back up. Seems we need to do similar here with Mikey, which honestly I would be doing right now. Focus on his fitness and injuries and then get him out on loan next season where he can get consistent and regular game time.

He then can come back with 2 years on his deal, a year to hopefully step it up at Celtic and prove he has the ability and the consistency to be here.

No point selling him just now though, we wouldn't get much for him at all. So best at least do something here to help the guy, if for no other reason to get a fee for him when we do sell him.

I seen this, he definitely rates him very highly.
The thing for me with Johnston is that he has been given plenty chances and just hasnt really taken them. I remember a few times he has looked bright but as others have said, i just dont think he has that end product.

The bottom line is wherever he goes, he needs to stay fit and he needs to play games.

Id loan him or sell to the english championship or such like with a buy back clause.
