Rank rotten in Europe as usual, not even a Europa league level defender. I’m sure someone on here will defend the performance as usual saying his ‘experience’ is valuable, what’s that? getting torn by every winger in Europe ?!

 

Put him in a Lennon type of team, and he would be fantastic.

Wrote in the CL thread that it’s quite strange how he has been our main RB in a attacking team for so long. Just look at how he performs in a defensive side like Sweden. That’s the style of football he is suited for.

Needs to be replaced obviously, even though I love him.

My main worry is our managerial appointment after Rodgers though. Imagine us getting Lennon back (love him and rate him) and have him set up a defensive style with a team packed with attacking style players from back to front.

Lennon wouldn't even play Lustig if he was our manager lol, he had 1 good European campaign when we got to the last 16 against Juventus and that's about it. He had legs back then and could actually whip a ball into the box, now the furthest he goes is the half way line. Think lenny even dropped lustig for matthews in the 13/14 season for a bit. Most players if you park the bus like Sweden did will look good at RB if there only going forward once or twice a game and sitting in a compact defence the rest of the time. And like you say for such an attacking team like ourselves we need our full backs to be comfortable going forward, which he is not. I get there has to be a balance but it doesn't mean one of our full backs should be the only one with the ability of going forward.

Worst performer in both ties against PSG, at home came on as a sub and kicked the ball in our own net and away where he faked an injury 10 minutes in because he was at fault for the goal and then got rewarded by playing against Motherwell in the final?! Every european team now exposes our right hand side of defence and the only ones who don't recognise this (or at least think it's a major issue) is our management. Instead of investing 4-5m on a RB, it looks like it has just cost us 40m instead... Genuinely don't know who is to blame for this, the scouting team, manager or the board? or all 3?

I'm going against the grain here I only have a problem if he has mistakes that riddle his game, not pace.

Wingers are genuinely normally quicker than fullbacks.

Even last night Livaja done a nice trick and then ran past KT like he was going backwards, he has legs. Ntcham got blown by their central midfielder on the lead up to that play, he has legs. KT v PSG got raped with Mbappe and Gamboa against Bayern. Fk even that wee guy Twusami or whatever his name was who was a right winger.

They hit an aimless ball into our box and the guy had 10 yards either way wiyh no-one near him that's the main problem. The centre of defence and midfield should be looked at.

Fk next we'll be slagging Ed or Moussa for not managing to block an aimless punt up the park that ends up leading to a goal.

 

Centre half is priority but Lustig needs replaced as well. He's been a great servant but he is no longer up to it. Every time he receives the ball he faces inside and squares it to the CB. We are lopsided with him in the team, KT on one side bombing down the wing delivering the ball in, then you have Lustig who doesn't get past the half way line. It makes us predictable. We should have a KT like player on both flanks, would make us much more of an attacking threat.

 

He is actually brutal. Anyone that defends him is being sentimental and weak.

I love him and always defended him, but realised hes done. But all disrespectful comments belong on hunmedia, because we are talking about a guy who absolutely adore this club and has been one * of a servant.

Really don't understand how he still gets a game for us, absolutely terrible majority of the time but it's cool cos he puts a beach ball on his head and stole a coppers hat

His experience domestically can still be important, but he’s been on the slide now for two seasons.. vital he’s replaced..

 

Would like him to take an izzaguire type role. There to call upon when required with full knowledge that game time will be limited

 

I don't know how many times this guy has to be responsible or partly responsible for losing goals without getting dropped/replaced.

Again the second goal was his man, totally fell asleep and knew he * up so he started claiming for a foul or an offisde.

Even the first goal came down his side, and the goal in the home tie was down his side as well.

We've all known he was done seasons ago yet he's still our main RB.

Incredible he's not been replaced despite declining for seasons. He's now absolutely useless.
