CELTIC defender Mikael Lustig says it was a classy second-half performance that saw the Hoops overturn a one-goal deficit and run out 4-1 winners against St Mirren at Celtic Park.

The visitors took an early lead courtesy of a Harry Davis tap in after 13 minutes, an advantage which they held until the second half but the goals came thick and fast after Lustig netted the equaliser for the hosts in the 58th minute.

Scott Sinclair then catapulted Brendan Rodgers’ men ahead 60 seconds later with Moussa Dembele and substitute Leigh Griffiths scoring in the 68th and 78th minute respectively in an emphatic fight back to secure victory.

Speaking after the game, Lustig said: “We were close to being 2-0 down and it was important to get the first goal and get the second straight after that, then I think we played really good football.

“We know it’s always going to be like that, if you don’t get the first goal, it’s always going to be hard. All credit to St Mirren, they were really disciplined and played really good football.

“It’s strange that they’re at the bottom of the Championship, they had a really good game. I know in the first half we weren’t so good, but in the second half we showed our class.”

The Paisley side held Celtic for 45 minutes and the defender stated the introduction of Patrick Roberts at half-time was a key moment:

He said: “I think the second half opened up a bit more, we got the first goal and that was really important. Paddy was brilliant, three of the four goals were about him and he did really good things.

“If we go 2-0 down it’s going to be a tough game, but we always know we have guys who can come in and create chances or score goals.

“It’s been a good season for us, of course we have some guys who are always in the starting XI scoring goals, but I think a strength we have this season is that if someone gets injured, there’s someone there to come in and do the job.”

With success now in sight and a place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup secured against Glasgow rivals Rangers, Lustig says there’s no room for complacency:

“Of course we know we have a big chance to get the treble, we have two tough games left. We’ve been to Hampden this year and played some really good football so hopefully we can continue that.”

Terrible today I thought. Really slowed things down and couldn't give a decent delivery into the box.

His legs are done in my opinion. Should only be used as back up.

I like his passion for Celtic but I've never seen in him what others seem to. Always thought he was a poor second to Adam Matthews, who but for injury, would have started more often.

Would like to see more of Gamboa.

I thought he had a decent game, was defensively sound and kept passes simple when moving the ball forward. I don't think there was much opportunity to get the ball into the box although he did hit a great long ball that landed on Moussa's foot on the 6 yard line which he normally would control but he didn't.

Maybe he was told to hold back to cover the threat of McKay who had little impact on the game compared to last time.

I think he should just be used as a CB. I have said that for a while now. Even more so when Gamboa has been playing well, which he has been for a while now. Plus Gamboa is a completely different option to Lustig as he is quick and has a good engine on him whereas Lustig is slow and seems to struggle to see out the 90mins at RB.

Defended well enough, just murder with the ball at his feet.

He's solid, but must be the most one-footed player in our squad. Talk about a left peg just for standing on...

An area we MUST strengthen in the summer. He is a weak link in the side , and that is not based purely on today. Whenever he receives the ball he looks instantly under pressure and it gets tense for me. Horribly one footed , doesn't have the pace or legs to get to the byline or overlap and his defending is average.

Gamboa would make us a far more fluid attacking unit and allow us to have a threat from the right in terms of getting in behind to cross ( as we do so often from the left with KT and Sinclair )

Swap Lustig for Gamboa, Erik for Jozo and Biton for Rogic (allowing Armstrong to play CM) and we will be at our strongest again.
