Officially the worst patter on the Internet. What an achievement.

Beggars can’t be choosers, though. Aren’t they in financial trouble?

To everyone panicking, listen to someone who's actually watched him. Could just be that he's not quite worth £8m+.

Huge assumption that a club widely known to have financial difficulty is holding out for £8m+. If they’re genuinely brassic, they’ll accept whatever respectable bid comes their way, which makes me think we’ve submitted a derisory offer, if at all.

    This.

IF, and it's a massive IF, we have made an "offer" ( I'm more inclined to think we made an "enquiry"), then we've low balled the * out of them.

Probably 2-3m with a massive amount of performance bonuses and a sell on fee.

Our "business" model is exactly what is says on tin. Business first, profit first, product last.

Aye, £8m+ is an assumption, but we're all basing our reactions on assumptions here. Your suggestion we've lowballed them is also a massive assumption. The £8m+ evaluation is an assumption that makes sense given what they paid for him and the report that we're not willing to meet their valuation. Of course none of us know for sure, but logic would suggest that means they're looking for at least a wee bit on top of what they paid for him.

But meanwhile they already sold a fair few good players and are able to invest 4/5mil in new players too. So its relative.
Their troubles are they have a rich owner, who always used to fit the bill. But mow they play regularly in Europe, cause of ffp he isnt allowed to do that anymore. So they are chainging their business model. And sold the best young assests. Now they seem stable again. So the troubles are relative. They always have the owner to keep the lights on.

He is not worth more then 5/6 in my opinion. For that money we can get better. Belgium isnt the cheap market we should be looking at.

antwerp sold a 17 year old for 18m€, Keita is probs leaving for 15m€, Butez and Ekkelenkamp two mediocre players are on the verge of leaving for 6/7m€.

The problem with this for me is what do we expect to pay for these players? As has been mentioned they paid €5m to get him and last season he scored in the CL and was a good player in a league that has been selling players for good fees.

I know Antwerp are meant to be in a bit of difficulty financially but they did sell that young striker for nearly €20m.

From our point of view say that was Jota who we paid £6m for and after a couple of CL goals and a strong season Club Brugge or Feyenoord wanted him and offered us £10m we would have told them to bolt.

It feels very like the full Castagne thing again where we are going for a player that we can afford but the club refuse to pay the fee for so why bother?

It’s the same with the overall price range we are looking at, even markets we have had success in previously are selling their best players for more than that now. Last season showed the players kicking about going for that generally are unless there is unusual circumstances e.g. a buy out clause like O’Riley or having a manager come in that knows an untapped market. Lastly your option would be to have a good scouting system and a slick transfer process so not to miss out, we have neither.

Whether it’s just the player fancied a move down south I don’t know but a couple of good players similar to Matt just left Peterborough for around £3m each Edwards and Burrows, the later we had been linked with. Granted Edwards went to Southampton so we weren’t likely getting him but we just seem to be messing around for players who aren’t available, e.g. Bueno, Shea Charles or not willing to pay for.

…and what does logic suggest about their bargaining power to get that ‘wee bit’ extra if - as widely reported, and hardly assumed - they’re up the creek financially?

I think @Belgian_lad said above they've already sold a fair few good players so I imagine they have a bit more leverage than expected.
