I’d say it’s down to his attitude theirs was time he’s missing sitters and was just laughing about it …. At a time where it was no laughing matter

I wonder if Maeda becomes more versatile in his we use him, as in a striker role.

We looked set to give Vata 3rd choice, so it's clear we aren't looking deeply for a high profile 3rd striker and Rodgers is happy with just the two main guys. Kyogo and potentially Idah fit that agenda. Maeda as the third choice gives him more game time elsewhere, while allowing perhaps the Belgian lad and Palma to occupy the left wing.

Maeda basically becoming a versatile utility sort of player across the front line.

Going by the transfermarkt screenshot above, 105 appearances and 25 goals and 14 assists from left wing, right wing and striker positions in his 5 years (not counting his midfield positions).
1 in 4 goal involvements per game, keeping in mind his first couple seasons will be sporadic appearances, he will be sparse with goals etc then too. Along with no minutes attributed to those appearances. Some of them really could be 5 minute end of game appearances.

I was thinking he doesn't look rapid, he looks decent but again, nothing spectacular.

If we put together a Palma compilation from last season, it would look more impressive than this guy. I'm a fan of Palma though.

 

Looks quite similar to Palma I think. Doesn’t really look to go past the full back, just buys himself half a yard then either whips one or looks to get a shot off. Looks technically pretty good, but again, so would Palma, and I’m not a big fan of Palma.

 

Not hugely impressed by that highlight reel, got to say. But trust those like @Belgian_lad who have watched him live a lot.

 

I 100% wouldn't be giving up on Palma either, I like him and I think he has another level or two to go up.

His attitude is fantastic too, dropped from the squad but I don't think I saw him sulk once.

 

He is the type of player you need in your team. He is a hard worker, scorer at important moments. He wont be a new Jota thats for sure.

Was really on fire before he got injured. Took him some time to comeback. And thats for me his weak point! Each season he misses quite a few games because of his injuries.

 

That was the first thing I thought, I miss Ange, bring him home.

 

Thank * I wasn’t the only one thinking this. Looked like Palma to me, £8m? I wouldn’t want to spend that on him.

 

Going back to last year and Maeda played as striker v Marinos and scored a hat trick.

Rodgers said after the game that from watching him, particularly at world cup for Japan that he felt his position was as a striker.

He never played there once last season but that was due to neccesity of him having to play on the wing due to losing both Jota and Abada after Rodgers had said that and due to recruitment bringing in 2 dreadful wingers.

Comments may also have been due to the fact he's really not ur traditional Rodgers type of winger. He's always had very creative type so may also explain why he initially didnt see him as a winger.

Providing we can sign at least 1 quality winger then I can definitely see Rodgers using Maeda more as an option through the middle whilst also still getting plenty of game time out wide
