He makes so many steps when he has the ball but each are small and fast, unreal!

Yes it was fantastic. Messi is just incredible already and he is only 21. The best player in the world right now IMHO and amazing to think how good he can be if he continues to develop and stays injury free.

Yeah he is top drawer, hes the best in the world! Ronaldo is awesome but Messi is on another level. Hopefully he can stay injury free, did he not get hormone injections to make him grow faster and that could have an effect on any injuries he gets.

Had a look and there doesn't seem to be a thread dedicated to this genius. Plenty of comparisons threads but no just one to the genuis himself.

Anyway on tuesday night he broke the record of most goals in a season for Barcelona.

48 goals in 46 games, that is insane.

    29 in 28 Liga games
    9 in 10 CL
    7 in 6 cup
    3 in 2 Supercup

Still plenty to go for him. Third year running he has been the top scorer in the Champions League and incredibly he is still a young player.

Well on his way to becoming the greatest I think.

Incredible and he isn't even a striker.

I think he is probably a good world cup campaign or 2 away from being considered the greatest ever, the national stage is the only one he has left to properly make his own.

I would argue about the striker part. He has played a * of a lot at centre forward this season, it's hard to tell sometimes with Barcelona's system.

He always starts on the right and then Villa bumps to the left Messi up top and Pedro to the right. Then they start switching about all over the shot and Iniesta ends up everywhere :icon_mrgreen: It's * brilliant.

An absolute insane finisher though, I've never seen somebody who can chip the ball quite like he can.

He has already scored a winner in a Champions League final and I do think the national stage is the only one left to conquer for him. With the team Argentina has got coming through though I can see 2014 being theres.

    On Brazillian soil :icon_mrgreen:

It amazes me that we're even talking about this, when he's only 23, he's truly amazing.

I was just about to make the point above, he really isn't that far from being considered the greatest, he must do it on the national stage and I'm sure it won't be long until he does.

He has/does play as the point of the triangle a lot but I don't there can be any disputing the fact he isn't what you would term a 'striker'.

Ronaldo (Brazilian), Drogba, Torres, Inzaghi, Van Basten, Henry etc etc etc are all out and out strikers. Messi has more strings to his bow than just goalscoring.

Not a classic centre forward by any means but I think striker is the most accurate term to class him.

Apart from complete footballing genius of course.

No doubt for me he is the best footballer in the planet. What makes him more appealing to others than Ronaldo is his attitude.

Messi from what we have witnessed so far doesn`t have a sense of big headedness or bawbag attitude like Ronaldo. He carries himself well and thats what makes a the difference both on and off the park; as was witnessed in the contrast in performance during the last El Classico.

Well on his way to becoming the greatest player in football, he has the FULL package!!!

Like someone already said earlier, the only thing he has yet to really shine in is the world cup which at only 23 is quite ridiculous.

His goalscoring record is just amazing, does anyone have his assists record? I would imagine that would be very good aswel, he isn't even that greedy either, of course to have scored that many goals you need to be a tad Selfish in front of goal but if you actually watch alot of his play he actually isn't very greedy.

The ball is almost glued to his feet and his speed, power and general class just makes him ease through some of the best defenders in world football.
Within the next two world cups he will shine on the biggest of stages and will then imo be viewed as one of the best players to ever step foot on a football pitch.

In terms of modern day football he is miles ahead of the next best player which I happen to believe to be Ronaldo, followed by Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Fabregas etc.

I'm only 19 so I only have videos on youtube and old football videos to look at the likes of Pele and Maradona who have been compared with him, I firmly believe he will in time be viewed as better than both of these players, he will rightly take his place as being viewed by the world as the greatest ever footballer in history, I'm just lucky to have watched him from an early age to now.

Champions league goal record is disappointing, needs to get a double against madrid next to make it decent

He is unbelievable though and the understanding him xavi and iniesta have is frightening

He has 9 goals in 10 CL games this year. If that is disappointing then I'd like to see what you call impressive :86:
