Don't understand how anyone can genuinely believe Ronaldo is the GOAT over Messi.

Fair enough players from different generations, harder to compare, but Messi is 100% the best of this century and my GOAT

Does his contract run out with Paris at the end of the season? Imagine being able to win the World Cup and confirm yourself as the greatest ever then just go and sail off into the sunset and play for fun in the likes of the MLS or something.

Personally it would be a shame to see him go to MLS so soon. Obviously he has nothing left to prove, but he could still play in Europe for another 2 years easily imo.

Winning the World Cup would be a fantastic end to his career though. I really, really hope he does it.

That would be beautiful and definitely cement him as GOAT (I think he is already).

Don’t get me wrong I love Maradona, and his performance s at the 1986 were super human at times, but what people need to remember at that World Cup, Maradona was 25 at the peak level of his career , messi s 35 , for a 35 year old his performance s v the world’s best in the big moments have been unbelievable, that big big gvardiol has been probably the best defender at the tournament, a total stalwart v the likes of de bruyne, Vinicius junior and neymar, big strong 20 year old about 6 ft 2 and 14 stone, not only did messi destroy him with skill but held him off with his body strength aswell, still be the green for me if he didn’t win the World Cup but be a total fairytale ending if he does, but let’s concentrate in pumping the sheep shaggers first

so now that he's outright the best footballer to ever live who completes the top 5 with him, pele, maradonna and C. Ronaldo.

    Brazil Ronaldo, Cryuff, Eusabio?

    I'll say Larsson

He was already the GOAT, this just rubber stamps it, it'll be a long time before we see a player as good, certainly not in my lifetime, it's been a real privilge to watch him over the years, thanks wee fella, yer some player.

He’s been the best player of all time since about 2011.

What is incredibly telling is that the older generations see it that way as well, barring the odd one that still says Maradona.

My Granda who has now passed away said he was the greatest he’d ever seen, and that was years ago, from a guy who’d seen Pele, Puskas etc.

Exactly. But the hold out was that Maradona ‘single handedly’ (apparently) won the World Cup in 1986.

Messi at 35 just outdone that.

Puts the debate over who is better than who between him and C. Ronaldo tae bed now.

That Herald piece must be a wind up man. Had tae click on it tae see if it was real.
