McStay every time. My all time Celtic hero.
Collins was a good player, but you really need to compare him with McStay before Collins arrived at Celtic.
Paul McStay was the complete midfielder, he could have played anywhere but chose to stick it out with Celtic during the most turbulent years in the club's history. Legend. -
mcstay was my 1st celtic hero....

I wish I was old enough to comment.
I asked my brother and he said McStay. -
As most people have said McStay. He was by far my favourite back in those days although I was keen on Collins as well. Especially after that free-kick at Ibrox :D

I remember more of John Collins than I do of McStay, so being ill-informed i'll say John Collins as I used to love watching him.
-
Nocompetition McStay wins it hands down
-
Mcstay by far Collins was a great player for us though.

Fore-runner to the Lambert/Lennon debate as to whether they could play in same midfield. With all due respect to the aforementioned duo they weren`t in the same league. Two cultured footballers who made the ball talk and were a joy to watch. How we didn`t win the league uner TB with these two pulling the strings will forever remain a mystery. Best football i ever remember at Paradise. And, yes, we won nothing, but we won nothing the right way! Ironically, i will always remember Celtic under TB and 2003 when we won nothing (Big Pierre Scottish Cup notwithstanding).........as my proudest and most enjoyable tlimes following The Hoops......can anyone explain why?.........Hail!Hail!

Paul McStay. He's probably our best midfielder ever, just unlucky for him he was playing in the worst era possible.
Could easily have played for anyone in the world, the complete midfielder. -
-
John Collins for me. Had every bit the workload of McStay, the natural ability, but more of a goal threat.

McStay shone in a period where we were getting humped, that is hard to do.

Mcstay, just a shame he played in a era where he did not have good players around him in the early 90s anyway.

Without any disrespect a bit of a pointless question chief because I cannot recall mcstay leaving the club at any time under a cloud ? Now a more interesting question would be what is paul mcstay up to nowadays instead as many would have thought he would have been perfect for coaching or management ?
