I feel McGeady can only play on each wing which is why we are always a 4-4-2 team.

Lets be fair and compare what they both were like at the same age (22) and in the same league: Aidan now and Shaun in his player of the year season:

    Dribbling-Aidan wins by a distance
Pace-used to be Shaun by a mile but draw now
tracking back-used to be Shaun but draw now
    Shooting-Shaun wins by a distance
    Goals-Shaun wins by a distance
    Crossing-Shaun wins
    Free Kicks-Shaun by a distance
decision making-Aidan's imporved by still not near Shaun standard

Basically I dont think anyone could argue that breakdown comparing like with like and its pretty clear that Shaun was a better all round player at 22 than Aidan is now. Aidan's real advantage is his superb dribbling but in all other aspects Shaun was equal or better. That said, I would like both-one on each wing.

one of the worst ways to compare two players that i've ever seen.

Maloney was worth more points a season out the 2.

Why? Is there any other objective way of comparing 2 players? That a list of the main attributes you want in a wide player. Its fair enough to compare each one by one. I think it clarrifies the reality a bit. Aidan is a brillaint dribbler but he is inferior to wee Shaun at the same age in terms of many of the core skills like shooting, crossing, free kicks, picking a pass etc. Just think this needs pointed out to those who are getting carried away about Aidan and are panning wee Shaun. If you keep a cool head and analyse them then Aidan has not yet mastered many of the skills Maloney excelled in at the same age. Just a reality check and also an explanation of why I would love wee shaun back playing WITH Aidan.

FFS Keltoi you still going on about yer lovechild :87:

Crossing and McGeady wins hands down, FFS how many assists has he had after beating a couple of defenders then laying the ball in for the strikers? Its the best part of his game now.

And you mention decision making, McGeady wins hands down again. He decided to sign a long term contract with us, Maloney kicked us in the baws. Wish you would drop the subject.

You don't hear Maloney and £10m in the same breath much do you

the reason it's an awful way to compare the two is that what aiden is better at, he is a lot better at.

say for example outta ten, just an example now.

    mcgeady dribbling: 9/10
    maloney crossing: 6/10

you see where i'm coming from here????

maloney may have been better at some aspects of his game, but only slightly better, what mcgeady's better at, he leaves maloney well behind.

all in all mcgeady is by far a more DANGEROUS player.

Am purely talking about technique here. Aidan is crucial to us because his dribbling beats men and pulls the team up the pitch and by sheer volume of time he is on the ball he obvously sets up a lot of our chances. But that doesnt change the fact that his crossing is patchy, his shooting is not very good at all and he scores very few. You forget just what a rocket shot Maloney had, the cracking inswinging pacy crosses he did and what a freekick master he was. Its perfectly possible to rate Aidan as our most important player but still see big flaws in his game. He is not ready for the EPL yet and wont be for a couple more seasons. He is getting better all the time but he has a lot to work on if he wants to be a world class player rather than a world class dribbler.

    here's another one for you:

    maloney v jinky

    Dribbling-Jinky wins by a distance
    Pace-shaun just shades
    tracking back-jinky
    Shooting-Shaun
    Goals-Shaun
    Crossing-Level
    Free Kicks-Shaun by a distance
    decision making-Jinky

So by your reckoning Shaun Maloney was a better player than Jinky Johnstone.

I see where your coming from

    Dribbling-Aidan 10, shaun 7
    Pace-Aidan 8, shaun 9
    tracking Aidan 8 shaun 8
    Shooting-Aidan 6 Shaun 9
    Goals-Aidan 5 shaun 7
    Crossing-Aidan 7 Shaun 9
    Free Kicks-Aidan 7 Shaun 9
    decision making-Aidan 7 Shaun 9

I still think thats pretty clear overall. Dribbling is not everything.

i was merely using a type of example.

what mcgeady is great at hurts opposing teams a lot more than all maloney's best attributes.

now compare your scores outta 10 with jinky. you might be surprised with your outcome.

why not even try it with larsson.

I don't forget what a shot maloney had, just rather leave it behind. This is a thread about McGeady. Yes Mcgeady has still to work on certain aspects of his game but what player doesn't? The legend who is Jinky didn't have a bullet of a shot or was a freekick master was he?
Aiden is by far our most dangerous player and can open teams up single handedly. He is showing it week in and week out and I'm chuffed we have him in our team. The Maloney debate has been had but he's offski with no chance of a return imo.
