Dasmoray1, well done mate ! One of the most sensible posts on this matter i have seen ! Like you, i believe Hanlon knew what he was doing. You see it week in week out, Hanlon's leg quite clearly goes across in front of Aiden, then at the very last second it is pulled away, by which time Aiden has had to take action for fear of being clattered. I have seen him take some brutal treatment in games and not go down, in my book he is no cheat , and if i ever have the misfortune to meet Craig Burley he will be told too !!

That * hanlon shaped to take the wee fella out no doubt about it imho.
Aiden went down to protect himself from getting a clobbering and possibly a bad injury he was goin lika a train down the touchline and if he beat hanlon he was away hanlon knew exactly what he was doing and was very cute in the way he carried it out givin aiden no other option but to hit the deck thus gettin a second yellow and eventual red if this had happened last wek NO action against aiden would have been taken of this i am certain give the lad a break hes a lot of things is aiden but certainly no cheat!

Hoops Daft, was never on the bandwagon ! Look in the "Diving" thread , this has ben my opinion all along. But i know what you mean ! Some of the comments on here have been shocking, its as if they have to crucify Aiden, to make themselves feel good about slagging off Eduardo ! Pity we didn't see such venom when the "hun" went over the other week against Hearts in the last minute, to win a peno !

is it an anti-mcgeady thing do you think because he takes a lot of pelters on this forum .

i just hope aiden dose keep hurdling challanges like that because if he just stands there with the way he gose past players and some of the challanges that come in on him . he could end up with his leg broken

Dunno mate, i sometimes think expectation levels are too high ! Aiden is by far the biggest natural talent we have, and if he played in the EPL they would rave about him ! Still think he is developing as a player, and you can see the effect Mogga has had already ! He looks like he is concentrating more on his end product now, shot or cross. Ronaldo was far from the finished article on arriving at Manure but look what he developed into, i think Mogga can do the same for Aiden !

    Graham Poll singles out simulators Eduardo, Eboue, Ballack & Torres 02 September 2009 - 12:55 | Sport.co.uk

Eduardo – YES - A clear dive in an attempt to win a penalty – I cannot agree with claims that he was jumping to avoid contact with the keeper as he was past him before falling.”

Eboue – YES - A clear dive as there was absolutely no contact with the tackler, Patrice Evra, who was already on a yellow card and could have been dismissed if Eboue had been successful.”

Rooney – NO – This is not simulation despite Rooney’s legs crumbling before being hit. Emmanuel Almunia missed the ball completely and would have wiped Rooney out potentially causing a nasty injury.”

Torres – YES - I can see no reason for him to fall in the way that he did. Would he have gone down like that if Liverpool had not been losing 1-0?”

“McGeady – YES - Another clear dive. Yes he had ridden two tackles but that does not explain his legs being thrown out when there was no contact from Paul Hanlon who pulled out of the challenge.”

Ballack – YES - The way the German went down and the area on the pitch confirmed to me he had dived. Luckily no one was cautioned and Chelsea did not score from the resultant free kick.”

Lucas – NO – Gary Megson was right that Lucas slowed down in order to draw a foul from Sean Davis who was tracking the Liverpool player. The duty of care though lies with the tackler. Lucas though should have been cautioned for insisting on a card for Davis – poor sportsmanship.”

    hmmmm Graeme Poll

Yes, but the fact is he got punished. There are an odd few, having a little attmept to say he didn't dive, i thought that at first. But never mind.

Eduardo done a lot worse- there is no two ways about that.

Also i think Hanlon (Hibs LB) was very clever. He almost dived and stopped just before Mcgeady's foot- as if he was going to touch him, and then he pulled out. But because Hanlon fell to floor, the linesman presumed it was a wipe out, but the ref must have seen that Aiden went down under no contact, as Hanlon, faked a tackle almost. Quite clever. Taking a leaf from Artur methinks. But some may look at the collision of legs and the arm of Hanlon on Aiden. Whatever.

Anyway, Aiden has been punished and we move on. Eduardo has been punished and we move on.

What * me off is people saying that Eduardo's dive had little effect on the outcome- it had a deciding, conluding effect on the tie. Nobody could have been absoloutley certain that at 0-0 Celtic wouldn't score. They were cheated out of any chance of a result and effort they had to give on the night.

    Lets move on now :celt_2::shamrock::celt_2::shamrock:

Gers skipper: McGeady is no cheat

Rangers defender David Weir admits he sympathises with Celtic's Aiden McGeady after the winger was sent off for diving on Sunday

McGeady was shown a second yellow card when he fell to the ground after a seemingly innocuous challenge by Hibernian player Paul Hanlon.

The dismissal came just five days after Arsenal striker Eduardo had dubiously won a penalty during the Champions League qualifier against Celtic
Eduardo was eventually charged with deceiving the referee and handed a two-match European ban by UEFA, a punishment the Gunners have appealed against.
But Weir does not think that either the Eduardo or McGeady incidents should start a trend of severe punishments for diving.
"I know Aiden McGeady as a player and I don't think that's his style of play," the 39-year-old told Sky Sports News.
"Obviously he's been punished for something. It's a harsh punishment but I don't think he's that type of player.
"I've got certain sympathies with players, I think now players are so fast and so athletic and the changes of movement and sometimes things can look like dives which, in my opinion, aren't necessarily dives.
"Lads can be anticipating contact and it can look worse that what it actually is so I don't think we should go overboard and (start) policing every instance and referring incident otherwise it'd never end.
"I think there is case where it is a bit blatant but I think a lot of the instances as well are a result of factors that maybe are just part and parcel of the game today."
Weir will return to the Scotland side against Macedonia on Saturday and is likely to partner Celtic's Stephen McManus.

Classic example of what he's meaning - the Arsenal game, our 1 decent chance at Parkhead came about after McGeady was brought down but he stole got up and chased the ball and then layed it to Brown when it was clear he was already fouled.

He's tenacious enough to keep on playing, he very rarely hits the deck if it can be avoided.
