Now that is the ideal type of midfield we should try maybe against the lesser side's at first like Hamilton,Falkirk, have to say with a midfield like that just think of the entertainment value i would like to see something like that before Naka leave's.

I like the idea of a 4-3-3 but is it really that different from what we currently play? Take this for example:

    ..................Venegoor..................
    McGeady.....................Samaras....
    ................................................
    ...........Brown.......Naka.............
    ..................Hartley.....................

Shuffle the midfield *right* one and it's basically:

    .............Venegoor........Samaras..........
    .......................................................
    McGeady..........................................
    ..............Brown......Hartley.....Naka......

Which is essentially what our standard formation is.

McGeady is the worst finisher out of all our attacking players so, no.

Simmilar, but the problem is that in the 4-2-2 our players are kept to their positions.
Mcgeady is kept to the wide area, as be Naka. but with a 3 man front line, you'd get a wider playing area in the final third to break the defence...or so should be the idea.

I would love to see Strachan change the formation every so ften to try these things out.

No chance just now. He can't head the ball and his shooting would need to improve drastically. I also can't imagine him holding the ball up very well.

wing forward would work, but who gets cropped from the middle, plus we would need a fantastic left back, hinkel would be fine with this formation, but naylor, na.

inter often play a similar formation which seems to work.

People keep going on about his crossing but his final ball has improved dramatically over the past 18 moths. A lot of * gets talked about him but he was the top assist maker last season and if that doesn't scream good final ball I don't know what does. His crossing is now a very strong part of his game.

    Nah

    He's better taking people on.

Cant see him holding the ball up or heading in many crosses, can you?

In my idea, this wouldn't be his job. He'd play support to Samaras/JVoH.

I saw on another Celtic wensite someone posted stats from this season and it showed that the vast majority of the games Maloney played we won and the vast majority we played Aidan we dropped points. Cant remember the actual figures but it was unreal. If its true then it must be either down to his inability to release the ball at the right moment/find man or is something to do with him not defending well. Whatever it was the statistic was mind blowing and just couldnt be down to chance. I will see if I can find it.

Brilliant observation there, would love to see Maloney come in for a sub for JVoH instead of Samaras for a game or two, see if he can do any better. However, I can see what you're on about Naka Fan; even in FIFA McGeady's listed as someone who plays for the offense, not midfield. However, we all know how trustworthy FIFA is...they even gave Naka the wrong number, 11 instead of 25...

The talk here (Australia) is that Skippy won't be starting the WC qualifier against Japan in Tokyo next wednesday, so hopefully the flight home won't be too taxing and he can kick Hun * in the Old Firm in the frward position.

The only reason I'd try this is so there wasn't so much pressure on Naylor when McGeady loses the ball. He's a poor finisher though but would he do any worse than Samaras and VoH at the moment? We'd also have a lack of height in the team.

Dunno about McGeady playing as a forward, but would definitely like to see him playing through the centre of midfield sometimes.
