He's already agreed terms etc with Atalanta. Just need to get an agreement between the clubs to be fair.

Atalanta were always the big danger. They can offer CL football. Canny grudge him that move. I don’t think he had any interest in going to the likes of Brighton or Southampton. Use the money for a centre half, left back and holding midfielder and it would be a great window in my opinion.

Have seen a few people saying he's agreed terms with Atalanta. How can a player in contract agree or even discuss terms with someone if an agreement between clubs hasn't been reached?

Who is desperate to see him leave? Literally nobody has said anything of the sort. The fact is he's cracking player developing well past the level of scottish football, he's going to move on because that's his career trajectory.

It’s against FIFA’s rules for a club to speak directly to a player under contract at another club. However, there’s absolutely nothing stopping any club from speaking to any player’s agent. In fact; the agent could take the player on a tour of the interested club’s stadium and training centre, both sit in a room with the CEO, Director of Football and Manager of an interested club and as long as all of the interested club’s representatives’ discussions and comments are directed at the agent and not the player; they’re not breaking a single rule.

It’s just the way things are done now. Agents hold all the aces.

How can he agree terms before a fee has been agreed? Surely the club accepts a bid, therefore agrees to sell the player then the player ,under contract, is allowed to talk to the buying club.

Didn't the same thing happen with jota? Is tapping a player up not a thing anymore?

Where is evidence he has agreed terms? Twitter?

Listen I have no doubt he is going to leave but we should be holding on to our best players and with so much money in the bank there is no need whatsoever to cash in on him. Yes, we have a policy but that policy is not needed just now due to our cash reserves. We could easily hold on to him for another year and perhaps do a little better in Europe. But we will again be second rate against teams we should doing better against.

Russell Martin has confirmed Southampton have pulled out of the race to sign Celtic star Matt O'Riley.

The Saints boss forged a strong relationship with in-demand O'Riley during their time working together at MK Dons. And Martin confessed earlier this summer that he would love to work with the classy playmaker again. Serie A outfit Atalanta have already had FOUR bids knocked back by the Scottish champions for their star man, as they hold out for a record-breaking sale north of £25million

Premier League new boys Southampton don't currently have the funds to match Celtic's asking price and Martin admitted today that O'Riley won't be coming to St Mary's this summer. Asked directly about O'Riley, Martin said: "We are not in the race right now

O'Riley - who is under contract at Parkhead until 2027 - isn't pushing for a summer exit and is happy to wait and see what unfolds between now and transfer deadline on August 30. Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has already warned potential suitors that the Scottish champions won't sell their biggest asset on the cheap.

Chelsea and Brighton have also been keeping tabs on the Denmark international's situation, while Europa League winners Atalanta are refusing to take no for an answer as they edge closer to meeting Celtic's asking price. O'Riley hasn't let the speculation impact his form after enjoying a promising start to the campaign

Basically, no. Its a written rule that is broken by basically every club and manager in the game.

Respected Italian and Spanish jouranlists have confirmed that the terms have been agreed.

You cannot hold players and deny them a move while we remain playing in a poorer league to most others. He's getting a move to a Champions League team in a top tier league. If we start refusing to sell players to these big countries, young players who may look at us as a stepping stone to go onto better things will think twice about choosing us over other teams. Every single team in the world is a selling club to someone, unless you're Real Madrid and Barcelona.

I reckon all these bids are just an attempt to unsettle MOR and force Celtics hand and get him on the cheap... unfortunately for them MOR is the ultimate professional and Lawwell is the tightest * in football.

At this stage we really should say if you want MOR you pay this much or else * off and stop annoying us.

    I used to like Atalanta

How can terms be agreed? We haven't sorted a price yet... That's an illegal tap of a contracted player! We need to have given permission, and wouldn't have without a fixed price, otherwise we'd only unsettle the player...

Think most of us would rather he stayed but there's several issues with that.

One being, he wouldn't stay another 3 years and another being the fact that we play in a league that does not allow for quality players like him to be kept satisfied.

He's outgrown the league tbh. I think it's the right time for him to move even though I don't want him to. Wouldn't begrudge him it as he's handled himself brilliantly.
