Which then begs the question of who was out main target(s) to see us scrambling on deadline day for a loan option?

No matter what way you cut it, we've not looked good here, yet again.

Folk can claim he wouldn't want to come to Scotland or money or whatever - but then what have we been * about with for two years and more specifically two weeks now since the kyogo deal would have been known to the club.

Celtic will try again to sign Brondby star Mathias Kvistgaarden in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Kyogo Furuhashi was sold to Stade Rennais last week in a shock move but was not replaced before the 3 February deadline


The Hoops weighed up moves for their top targets and attempted to bring Kvistgaarden to Parkhead – but were priced out of a move by Brondby in late-window drama.

Failure to replace Furuhashi has drawn criticism from Celtic fans but it is believed the club did not want to panic and overspend.

They will instead trust Adam Idah to lead the line for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, while the addition of Jota will bring additional goals to the front line.

Sources say there will be a “big summer ahead” for the Glasgow giants as they look to go to the next level after success in the Champions League this season


They will need to negotiate the qualifying rounds of next season’s competition if they want to match their exploits this term.

Kvistgaarden had been identified as the top choice to replace Furuhashi by Brendan Rodgers and his transfer chiefs, but Celtic were unwilling to match his valuation in the mid-season window


He has hit 14 goals and notched five assists in 22 games across all competitions for Brondby this season.

The Denmark Under-21 international’s contract runs until June 2027.

 

I don't know why they appeared more willing to sell mid season than now.

 

The issue is with Brondby is they had recently a share issue which raised millions(aprox 20mil gbp), so they weren't in need of urgent cash. Therefore they could raise the price to a silly amount that we would never want to pay.

Exactly. Board wouldn't justify his signing as they've already accepted defeat to Bayern and already chalking up the title as done. Both viewpoints unacceptable in my opinion. In all likelihood he'll be out of our price range completely come the summer. What an utter waste of resources scouting him for this long.

 

If we knew Kyogo was leaving, surely we should have started negotiation as soon as the window opened with Brondby. Or was their some hope we could keep him until the summer?.. Missed the boat completely on this one..This reeks of complacency

 

Can’t help but think we’ve missed the boat now. He’s only going to get more expensive if he continues the way he’s playing.

Probably be a 100 pages in the summer alone . Cant wait to scout him again for 2 months then someone swoops in at the last minute and pays the asking price .

I actually dont think 14M is too much-we paid 9M for Eddy over 8 years ago, so its similar with inflation.
