Eddie Howe probably had duds at Newcastle. Osula looks like one, by his record. And Ferguson is pointless, since we cannot convert the loan to a permanent move. He's overrated, too. For £60M one could buy developed players.

If we won't try Ueda, Budimir or some other ready-made striker with pedigree, then let's get a J-League player. At least the work ethic will be there.

Same could be said for us asking £30m for an uncapped Matt Oriley or Jota.

Really poor take, tbh. Dated as *.

Also, if we want to talk about daylight robbery...Ferguson at £60m!

That would buy us two teams.

Get what you’re saying but Brondby can’t commanding 13.5m for a player surely? Their record sale i would guess would be something like 5/6m.

Agree with a lot of that, my point was more when did Brondby start selling players for that kind of fee? They play in a * league like us, they’re rarely ever in European competition never mind the champions league. I’d have a guess at there record sale is around 6m, why should we be paying 13.5m?

13.5m is what they're supposedly asking for and it was reported in the record so probably worth a pinch if salt.

Jota and O'Riley the players you mentioned were both Champions League players, both capped, and with all respect Celtic is far bigger club than Brondby will ever be.

    Not dated. Relevant tbh.
    Better negotiating position.

I'm sure he has U-21 caps.
    But the point still stands.

Kvistgaarden also has U21 caps lol

His club are entitled to value him at what they think he’s worth. £12m or however much it is truly isn’t that much in modern football anymore.

Again I see your point but on the flip side we all know van dijk was worth more than the £14m we sold him for. Our league meant Southampton got a bargain. Perhaps it's our turn to get a bargain?

I dont think 6 games at UCL level allows for us to then value them at 30m though. We are within our rights to, however. And that's the point here.

As above Jota hasn't been fully capped and MOR had what, one, before moving. It's hardly a groundbreaking difference.

    He may well do.

But I don't see our parsimonious board shelling out £13.5M for a converted winger/* striker from the Danish League to replace Kyogo. :giggle1:

If we got William Osula on a loan from Newcastle with an option to buy, and he hits it off with us, I'm sure we could persuade Eddie Howe to sell for under £10M.

That makes more business sense to me

The option to buy would be built into the deal so we wouldn’t need to convince Howe if the agreed fee after the loan was £10m.

As above, I still don't think those performances necessarily justify a 30m price tag. Not when 85% of your season is spent playing in Scotland.

But it's what we valued them at. We are within our rights. As are Brondby here.

I think there's a bit of hypocrisy in our support tbh. We moan and laugh when teams low ball us yet expect teams to roll over and give us their prize assets for what we think they're valued at based upon put perception of their league. Despite the fact we play in what is, overall, probably a worse division.

Offer £10m plus addons and % of next sale, hes clearly the player we want.

Well, in both cases it demonstrably did justify the price tag, since both were sold pretty quickly for those prices. In O’Riley’s case we had several clubs offering in that region.

Jota was a bit more of an inflated value but then I think if we had actively been trying to offload him like Brondby are we would’ve accepted a lower price and had plenty willing to match it.

I think our support are pretty good and fair in this regard actually. I think it’s generally understood European performances are crucial for us demanding big fees because it shows the player can cope against better players.

I think we’d all agree a £10m - £13.5m needs to take us up a level in Europe if we are ever going to progress as a club. To me it’s a huge risk to spend that kind of money on a 22 year old that hasn’t kicked a ball in anger in Europe - and not just for us, for any club - which is why Brondby’s rumoured price tag is unreasonably high IMO.

And I’ve posted in here I want Kvistgaarden and rate him - but we shouldn’t be overpaying just because we have money.

I'm not really advocating we spend 13.5m. All I'm saying is Brondby are justified to ask for it.

Also we paid 500k short of 10m for Idah and I wouldn't say I'm any less confident in Kvistgaarden being the answer as I was with him.

Sadly you won't get a player for 10m-15m who's guaranteed to take you up a level.

We need to risk it. Every transfer whether 10m or 100m has a risk. We all know this by now.
