It’s not the fact i’ve not heard of him that’s making me apprehensive, it’s the shear lack of trust in our scouts.

Its his goal record that concerns me. Id rather pay good money for someone with a current, proven track record of goals like Kyogo and GG had when we brought them in.

He doesnt seem like an out and out striker to me and if we play this system we wont be able to exploit his pace.

I am not too sure about that, the Danish sporting press are mentioning that Schalke 04 are interested - their source is Football Scotland. They doubt that they have the money for him, or that he will go to 2. Bundesliga

Overpriced, less than impressive stats, posters on here who watch regularly already stated he too far away from 1st choice, plus, his club pulled a fast in the summer and faffed about...

And now the rags saying 8.5m? And Shalke, a team sitting in 14th in the second tier of German football have "stolen a march" ?

    They can have him.

    File under pish.

Celtic have opened talks with Danish side Brondby over signing striker Mathias Kvistgaarden this month, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Hoops are still working on a deal to recruit the 21-year-old, who has been a standout in the Danish top flight this season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side remain active in the market this month and are looking to bolster their attack in the wake of a swathe of absentees who have left for the Asian Cup, including Hyeongyu Oh, Daizen Maeda and Hyunjun Yang.

Meanwhile, Kvistgaarden has played as both a striker and a winger in his career and has notched seven goals and seven assists across 21 appearances in all competitions this season.

He has proved vital for Brondby since the academy product made his debut in November 2020.

Kvistgaarden penned a new deal with the club in May which keeps him under contract until the summer of 2027.

The 2002-born star has bagged 21 goals and 12 assists across 81 appearances for Brondby and helped them to win the league title in the 2021-22 campaign.

He has been a regular for Denmark’s youth sides since making his debut for the under-18s in September 2019 and most recently featured for the under-21s in a European Championship qualifier against Wales.

Celtic remain top of the league with an eight-point gap on second-place Rangers before the winter break and next face Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup on 21 January.

Why is this rumour still being given any time at all.

His stats are average at best, he's another small, light weight forward and there is absolutely no chance we are paying £5-7m for a guy who would be 2nd choice to Palma or Kyogo depending on what position he actually plays.

Get use to it mate, our recruitment team appear to have set the filter to "born after 1st Jan 2000" on the search engine.

Think Johnston is only 1 we have signed in the last year born I the 90s.

Quotes of 7m seem pretty steep. Not sure on this one.

7m is indeed a lot for us but if Rodgers wants him then we'd have to trust in it.

Everytime we are linked to paying a fee like that for a player we tend to get a bit nervous but end of the day I said the same about Toney and we regretted that. Not to say we would instantly regret this one but still. Denmark produces a lot of very good players, he could be one of the next ones.

Long term deal recently signed so will cost a lot for a player with potential. I know eduard was young but we at least had a loan deal and could see his potential.
If your spending 7mil it needs to be on someone who is expected to challenge and be an integral part of the team.

I know price doesn't mean anything really but for that price the stats don't match the price tag

Only way I see it happening is if Abada does go. Although Kvistgaarden has mainly played as a striker in a front 2 and been the second striker, he plays on the wing for the Danish U21 team and has done for Brondby when they play 4-2-3-1 instead of 3-5-2.

Which isn’t actually dissimilar to Abada before we signed him as he played significant game time as a striker in a front 2.

Don’t get me wrong I think they are different players in terms of style Kvistgaarden is a bit better on the ball and off it in terms of pressing and winning the ball back, also more creative in his passing. Where as Abada is a better finisher but they occupy similar spaces on the pitch, both fairy quick and neither are the tallest.
