Another “young/possibly promising” type. The squads been filled with them this summer meant to be, no more. Especially not at the 4-5m price.

I disagree... Filling the squad with young, promising talents at the £4-5M range is the right thing to do. But it needs to be with a core of experienced/mature players of AT LEAST the same kind of value alongside.

In theory, we've a spine of CCV, McGregor, Kyogo who are all ~£10M+ players. You have Hart who's experienced to the max, but low value due to age. Most of the others are players you'd say spending £3-5M to bring in wouldn't be unreasonable. Most we'd value at less are the ones we're trying to unload.

Not sure where the mentality that £4-5M is a * fee for a development player came from...

Aye, this is spot on. We have built up enough cash to move on from the £1m range to a higher range.

By the sounds of this boy but, it’s going to take a lot more than that unless he’s desperate to come here. How much Danish does O’Riley know?

£4m/£5m is a higher fee for us, people seem to forget we’ve just started being comfortable shopping that price range. And half the reason that we can’t splurge more, is that’s probably the limit of our wage range before everyone would demand more money from the guys already here and proven to be our key men.

Interest OVER, according to the rags. We've walked away.

Now watch him sign for another side and bang them in.

Of course if we did sign him, he'd be less likely to bang them in as he would to transform into * Bangura.
Our energy ATM is so * negative

Tbh I don't know if any * good who we sign, my scouting knowledge comes from comments here and ex players for celtic but we need someone else up front and if kyogo is the main man you need a top qaulity young player who will fight then take his chance.

We have that just now though. I really like OH, he's injured just now which exacerbates the problem up front but the player we need to persevere with is OH.

Spending £6m on a striker... just doesn't seem like a priority to me. Listen, if we want another striker in, who am I to judge. But we need to get a GK, LB, CM, RW in first before we even entertain getting in another striker and certainly not at £6m. We are already seeing minor leaks saying we are not pursuing a goalkeeper and people seem to forget that we wanted a RW in initially.

Would rather we went for SVH on a loan to buy to cover up front, spend the £6m on other priority positions.

We need 3 strikers at a club our size. It's not priority but we have the budget to work on them all, oh looks good but id kyogo pulls a hammy sunday were *, and lets not forget he may be penciled in for his shoulder op. I'd rather not panic buy a dud in a priority position either without proper scouting. If our 1st or 2nd choice is gone then we wait. We can't afford more * clogging up the wage bill.

Can understand that point of view but if we genuinely think that spending £6m on another striker will be a smart investment, I'm all for it. Imo it's too much for him though. I'd rather pay a lower fee now with a bigger sell on clause for them.

The lack of movement in other areas that annoys everyone.

Surely, if we can find someone we're willing to bid £4m for a back up striker, there's a keeper or a left back etc that we can get for similar?

    This in a nutshell.

Had we signed a new GK and a LB, with Palma coming in over the next day or two, we probably would be a bit relaxed about paying a decent fee for a talented striker from Denmark. We'd all be a bit more relaxed about getting a CM in and an emergency CB for cover.

The window has been extremely poor, that's saying something given we know how this board has worked over the last 15 years. We all thought we had made significant changes but things just seem to be the exact same as they always have been. Reactive instead of Proactive.

Good point, I would also add to that we haven’t spent that sort of fee except for Nawrocki, the rest have been £3m and under. In some instances crowding an already over crowded short on quality squad in certain positions.

For example as a defensive midfielder we have 4 on the books just now, grant McCarthy and Soro look like departing but we have Iwata who doesn’t seem fancied and Kwon who is just in the door but seems a cheap punt rather than even a project. Add to that Ideguchi out on loan. So plenty of bodies but no quality player.

What do all 4 have in common? They were in around that £1-£2m range or free.

Yeah, I know the country argument will be so were Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate but they have unique circumstances.

You barely hear of someone in O’Riley’s position where he’s been majorly talented and decided to step away from a big academy as a free agent; went to a lower league club to play. The story normally goes now they sign for Chelsea or Man City and join the stock pile then are loaned to a lower league club; if they do well they are loaned again before eventually being sold in their mid 20’s. It’s a big gamble doing what O’Riley did but to actually progress as a footballer it is probably the right thing to have done.

Reo Hatate is just plain daylight robbery due to the manner of how most J league clubs help their players get to Europe. That will start to dry up too, there doesn’t seem to be as many Mitoma, Hatate and Kyogo types kicking about the J league this season as 2021.

Back in for him and since the other thread has been locked

Celtic have indicated to Brondby they are planning to improve their offer for Mathias Kvistgaarden in early January - but now they face competition from the Bundesliga.

Football Scotland understands the 21-year-old striker is back on the agenda within the scouting team at Parkhead with the Hoops knowing they face losing Kyogo to the Asian Cup with Japan. We told you back in the summer how Celts were interested in a £4million move for the player but that his club had valued him at a heftier fee closer to the £7.5million range.

Celtic refused to go that high in their pursuit of the hitman and that allowed him to stay in Denmark to play first-team football this term where so far he's notched five goals in 15 appearances. He has also shone for the Danish under-21s side alongside Matt O'Riley.

Now Football Scotland understands Celtic have made it clear they are willing to up the ante in a bid to get a move completed for the title run-in.

Sources in Denmark do suggest, however, that European-chasing clubs from Germany have had the youngster watched on multiple occasions as they consider their own move and the implication is that they'd be willing to spend more than the Scottish champions.

O’Riley getting into the national team from his performances here is a good selling point if this is serious and not just lazy linking to targets that we moved on from in the summer.

Thought he looked like an excellent prospect back in the summer when we were linked. Would be happy if this is true.
