  2. Excatly.

  3. lack of solidness and experience in a lot of the candidates. Celtic is not a club for manangers under the age of 40 IMO. Its the sort of job for a seasoned pro with a few tricks and many campaigns under their belts. We could get lucky but the amount of young prodigy managers who fall away is huge.

The nearest among the usual suspects to a proper battle hardened manager that has managed in the SPL or EPL and who has a bit of quality about him is Levein IMO. He was unlucky in England due to behind the scenes stuff and I think he is an excellent manager given the limitations he has worked under. Has at least a little European experience too. He just has that something about him. Players would not mess him about and he is good at coaching, tactically and dabbling n the cheap end of the transfer market. I am really begining to think he is the best option although not at all a sexy one.

  4. I think some fans need to get their heads around the idea of what it is to be a Celtic manager.

We bang on about "Celtic-minded" managers, who know what it is to run a club with our imbedded culture, history, etc. Basically what we're asking is that because they have a knowledge of the club, they understand that they must saddle with a lot of stuff, work miracles and do it on a shoe-string budget, all the while competing against the great and the good from leagues which burn money for fun. If we step outside of this finite number of people, we're asking a stranger to do the impossible and do it infront of what is, for a large part, a suspicious support. I have grown to HATE the term "Celtic-minded". I thikn it's ludicrous for a club which maximises every financial avenue and squeezes every penny they can, to be lumbered with what amounts to parochial mentality.

A manager outwith a club affiliation would be a breath of fresh air. I know Strachan filled that quota too, but people held stuff from 20 years prior against him. Martinez would be a gamble, but it's one I'd like for us to take. Do you notice how the club have distanced themselves, or not commented on links with bosses who are renowned for spending to build a team. We're going to end up with someone who'll need to maximise what he inherits and who'll need to sell before he can buy. Keane won't be able to do that, nor any of these other Premiership rejects sniffing around. Bilic is untested in club football and may not have the ability to work a budget. Coyle would appear to have said no. Mowbray will cost, through compensation, so is probably a no-go. We're running out of options fast, so I reckon a punt on a young, up-coming manager, with strong links to the continent is not the worst thing that could happen.

  5. ... and many good footballers never become good managers.

  6. because people have heard of bilic, that'll be why they want him and don't want martinez.

i'm sure they'd all heard of wim jansen before he signed too and wanted him as manager

  7. mixed feelings tbh

  8. Mogga, Martinez and McGhee all sound like they have the Tommy Burns pretty football idealism which I am afraid is nor always the way to win, especially in the SPL. Levein would be far more hard headed and IMO likely to play winning football at all costs.

  9. well we tried the "just win the league no matter what approach" and look what happened to that manager....

  10. I would be pleased with him, some of the football he's got Swansea playing is fantastic, I still doubt that this will appease the fans who want 'good football' even though he does play the best football in the championship.

  11. Can we get Bilic instead?

  12.
I think Levein would prefer the rankers job tbh.

I can't say I am totally excited about this recent development...but IF the Martinez guy is to be our next manager i will give him my support 100% as I have done with every other Celtic manager.....No manager deliberately sets out to do a bad job....They give it their all with the funds available. We need to all keep that in mind for the coming season(s) whoever gets the job.

  17. if thats the case we better get this manager now, as getting gomez is far more important than anything else :97:
