Dennis Cherychev was in the Castilla squad and since his move to Villarreal has been getting glowing reviews on his performances. It certainly didn't harm his development. Odegaard cant have the attitude that he is too good though, even if he is. As he will have to prove he is of the correct mentality. Madrid is full of egos already. Mourinho experienced that when he had to battle with Casillas, and Ramos. Being paid the wages he is for such a young age, he should get his head down and work hard and the rest will fall into place.

As I understand the whole issue his contract with Madrid said he would train with the first team most days and only train with the Castilla squad once a week. They realised that once a week wasn't enough to blend in with the team and after some discussion I think he's training with Castilla two or three times a week now. Everybody who knows him says his attitude is fantastic so I think the whole issue was overblown by the media. He had a clause in his contract with Strømsgodset that gave him the right to train as much as he wanted so I feel confident he'll work hard enough. :50:

Yeah, go on. Like with Denayer, I'd rather have him for a season than not at all.

I'm all for loans, especially when it's players like Denayer and Guidetti who feel like Celtic players.

Alright, lets pretend that Celtic and Ronny are absolute *'s and have written off all of our young prospects that you mentioned.

Who does that leave us with? Oh yeah... Stefan Johansen, Ronny's Norweigian lieutenant and Scottish Premiership 2014/15 player of the year and arguably our best player and Kris Commons, one of our top scorers and last years player of the year both of these guys are stick on's in our first team and impossible to drop when in form.

I don't think any of us are daft enough to think that Real Madrid would loan him anywhere without wanting guarentee's that he'll play in his main position and get regular starts.

So we would move about our 2 best players to fit in a teenager that we would have to give back at the end of the year. Does this not sound mental to anyone else?

I don't think he will come here and will be very surprised if he isn't out on loan to a La Liga side.

you dont have to pretend theyve been written off. they clearly have been considering they have been nowhere near the first team all season and we brought in two players in january that could play in their positions.

most of odegaard's games for castilla this season have been on the right wing. most of his games at godset were in the johansen position, with a handful of games on each wing. the kid is 16 years old, very versatile and its very doubtful that anyone actually knows what his best position is at the moment, even the kid himself.

the most important thing for odegaard is that he plays competitive football at a high level and madrid will know that. their not likely to demand that he plays in a certain position when they dont even know if it is his best position.

    imagine 11/12 years ago...

"theres some argentinian kid at barca, might be a good option on loan for the wide positions"

green socks - "* that, weve got stephen pearson and id rather see jamie smith get some game time"

It depends if we're getting loans that are quick enough to adapt to a higher level.

Whatever way you want to look at it there is an argument that the lesser teams produce talent because they are playing competitive football.

I'm all for going raiding development teams and if you want the best of the bunch then loans are the easier deals to do maybe.

Odegaard at Celtic would be a helpful addition to the squad, that's the way i see it and i'm sure most fans would be happy to get a future talent like this in for a season.

It's not the only way forward, but for certain players it's a good way for them to develop and for us to potentially have higher skill level players for the European campaign.

The only way that im in support of this move is if Madrid agree to pay 100% of his wages for the duration of his stay. Im not sure if there is enough benefit in this move for us..

Why take a 16 year old to develop him and do the hard work for Madrid when we can play our own youth and develop them? What if he carries the attitude, that according to the players of the Castilla squad (Guillem Balague), he cant be bothered training with inferior players than that of the Madrid first team? With or without Odegaard, we should win the SPL. Would a 16 year old make the difference of reaching the champions league group stages? or last 16?

We are not a feeder club. We should be giving game time to our youth to develop them and increase their ability. But that being said, I hope that if the move were to happen, that I am proven wrong.

Could you expand more on this lad? Balague is usually pretty tuned in on the goings on in La Liga. What did he say about Odegaard?

He is already ahead of McGeouch McGregor and Rogic in terms of ability. By some distance. Probably even Henderson as well.

You also referred to all 3 of those as 'young prospects'. McGregor is 22, not a wee laddie anymore, McGeouch the same and Rogic well he disappeared off the face of the planet until he was named on the bench on Sunday.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...-Celtic-boss-fails-late-bid-sign-protege.html

Anyone who has ever seen him including Deila, players and staff at Strømsgodset and Mjøndalen (Where his father was assistent, he trained with them often because he had school when Godset was traning.) Various journalists (Including Balague, who met him before he had signed for RM) and people in his life in general (Friends, classmates etc, the media coverage is insane) say the same thing.

I wouldnt take him either, would only hold back our own players if we gave him a game and he doesnt sound good enough to get a game anyway.

Im not contesting his ability. Im just questioning what we would gain? I genuinely think for the long term goal of nurturing and developing assets which we own. I was gutted to miss out on a player so skilled for his age and with such potential. But i think we should be looking to find and develope our own odegaard.
