Nah even under Lennon it was 50/50 where he was played or brought on. Henderson has for us predominantly played in the bank of three. His first few games under Lennon were further back, and he looks suited to that role. But mostly he has been used further up the pitch, especially by Ronny.

There becomes more competition for places, that's a good thing for a young player who's not in the starting team picture. Also, it probably doesn't affect his chance of game time, he will be played in certain games.

I think your memory is wrong on this occasion. Lennon played a diamond when Henderson got game time and Liam mostly (always?) played in the middle. He got a fair whack of game time in the bank of 3 this season as well though but it doesnt matter because he is a ball playing midfielder and his future is in the bank of two :50:

It will definitely affect his chance of game time as he will be directly competing against another player. And competition is good for a team yes, but not when that competition is being provided by another teams youth players at the expense of our own who needs game time to improve.

I just find it highly unusual when people question his ability or wonder how he can into new systems. He's a very versatile player with a good track record for us. I wasn't picking on you precisely, but more the trend that is is weird to like Stokesy.

Anyway, looking forward to this boy coming to Paradise. Fingers crossed the rumours are true, because this could help Ronny's second season immensely.

So we can't sign a player better than Henderson because he's from the youth system? If Henderson is good enough, he'll break through.

It's not like Shay Given or Andrew Robertson where we release them before they ever made a first team appearance and we didn't realise what we had. We know exactly what we have with Henderson. It's up to him to prove he's good enough. Absolutely none of the academy players who made it to the first team and we subsequently released or sold have made us regret it at all in the last decade/more.

I'd * take Denayer back on loan for another season every time over Odegaard on loan for another season. Completely irrelevant but ah well.

Tbh, don't see what Odegaard would add to our team, but I think Henderson should go out on loan anyway. He needs to play a full season of games in the first team. A good League 1 side perhaps.

He can't break through if we keep making stopgap signings which keep him out the team, which is what Odengaard is and will do.

This forum has got unbelievably carried away with Henderson . If Ronny thinks Odegaard will offer more next season then bring him in - lets get the best team we can on the park next year, no room for sentiment . If Henderson is good enough , he will get the game time , but this is a big club and competition should be expected.

    Hope he signs.

If anything, just to * a few folk off. Never mind the fact he is supremely talented.

Watched that video and from the start you were seeing some good wee touches and pieces of skill. Which is fine. I was thinking to myself but where are these bits of skill and touches that lead to something worthwhile. About 2mins in, that's when the video started to show similar wee pieces of skill which led to goals for himself or assists. Looks extremely intelligent in terms of dealing with the game situation, creative thinking with his passes and able to execute them with correct technique(weight of pass etc).

I can't see any reason not to want him, even if it's just for a season long loan. If he can make the difference then why not, just like Denayer done last season.

    You nailed it, spot on.

Sure, there are players out there who's both faster and equally gifted technically, but what makes him really stand out is his feel and understanding of the game, his vision and timing. To have these qualities at 15/16 is simply unheard of and most players don't ever reach that level mentally no matter how much skill they've got. When you add this to his humble down to earth and hard working mentality, he can certainly reach as far as imaginable. It's the small details of a hidden pass, or a unexpected perfectly weighted thruball, unexpected line of pass or small quick one-twos that makes me fall in love with football, and it's what this kid does best and will only get better at.

Would love to see him in Celtic for a year, and who knows maybe he'd extend his stay for another year.

My only concern for Martin in the SPL is..... Dundee Utd.
But I'm sure Ronny would personally put the record straight if they tried to slaughter him :47:

I 100% hope this deal goes through, and anyone who wouldn't take this wonderkid for a season is mental. Not only would he improve the first team, but the exposure Celtic would get for a place for top young players to develop would be immense. And seeings as this is supposedly the model for Celtic with Ronny in charge, this is a no brainer.

Agreed. With the progress Denayer made last season and the likes of Boyata and Janko signing this year, this loan would really put Celtic in the minds of a lot of top prospects and top clubs wishing to develop their young players.

I know a lot of people are against it as some feel a loan player from another club stops our youth coming through, but if we could get one or two players like Denayer or Odegaard every season on a year long loan, I can't see the problem.
If our young lads were good enough to break through they still would.
