    Like Mascarell at Derby?

There's more to a loan deal than standard of opposition. Dealing with the rigours of first team football and acclimatising to playing in front of large crowds. Two things Celtic will always provide for good young players.

Another good thing about Denayer taking to Celtic like a duck to water is he is now an example to any other Club that Celtic can take on young players, integrate them quickly into the team and make them better as well.

The Championship in England might be viewed a lot higher than the Scottish league by Real Madrid. How highly rated is Mascarell by Real Madrid, that could also be another factor. Madrid might well want Odegaard to play in a more technical league than Scotland, which if they did, wouldn't really surprise me. I've already said I think him coming here would be a good move for both us, and the player, but if he doesn't end up plying his trade here next season, I think we can assume it will more down to Madrid rather than the player, if we are interested in taking him of course.

    Nope.

Real Madrid - La Liga (first tier)
Real Madrid Castilla - Segunda División B (third tier)
Real Madrid C - Tercera División, Grupo VII (fourth tier)

The biggest plus I could see about sending him to us, from Real's point of view, is sending him to a club where * hits the fan is you lose a game. To try and instill a winning mentality into a youngster whose used to being a superstar in a relatively small team.

It would be a step into the right direction to acclimatising to the demands of playing for Real Madrid.

tbh I wouldn't like him here, I don't want loan signings , tbh I think he is much too young and unexperienced on the physicality of the Scottish game, he would basically be overpowered in midfield , instead we should probably look at another younger player with more physical build like van dijk in midfield

Hmm, whatever is best for the player's development is surely best for the club?

As I keep saying, who's to say Real Madrid see him coming to Scotland is best for his development? It doesn't matter on iota what you, I, or any other Celtic fan thinks, maybe even Odegaard himself. We might see it as a good move for both parties, the people at Madrid might not, and I have a feeling they will look to send him to a more technical league rather than Scotland.

guess we should have sent denayer back to city months ago then?

    i dont get why people are so against loans when we have had so much success from them in recent years;
    guidetti (to an extent)
    forster
    denayer
    keane
    samaras
    bellamy

and i know there will be people who come back with the argument about how many gershons, mikus and bergets we have had but the same argument could be made on how many bad permanent signings we have made too.

imagine the money we could have saved had we not splashed out on derk, pukki, bangura or juarez to name a few. if we had brought them in on loan, we could have determined whether they were good enough or would adapt well enough before making any decision to sign them permanently or at the very least have a players that would be working their * off to impress while they were here.

loan signings are not beneath us, even the top clubs in europe are open to using the system frequently. we probably have more chance of attracting a good player if they have actually spent some time with the club beforehand and seen what we are about.

Lets be honest guys if we get Odegaard on loan for a season in the summer that would be considered a blockbuster signing witch would send the footballing world into a frenzy by allowing footballing fans all over the world to see 'the best young player in the world' week in week out at one of the most respected clubs in the world. At the moment the only way to see this guy playing is by signing up for Real Madrid tv i would imagine. The reason why this guys has so much views on YouTube for just a 30 second clip because his exposure has been so little in regards to televised games. The marketing department at Celtic would be doing back flips at the thought of this guy coming and the world wide demand that would follow to see him play. The stumbling block for me would be if Real would allow him to come to us although in regards to world wide interest in a football club Celtic is amongst the top 10 and a i don't see the other 9 offering Odegaard a deal. Essentially my point is this Real would be missing out on major opentuinty to market there own player to a world wide market by blocking a move to Celtic. This is all of course if he is going to be as good as evryone says hes going to be

Although Denayer has been a monumental success I am still not keen on loaning young players. Established pros that cant get a game sure but im not 100% on developing other teams players especially if they are 16. He will presumably leap frog from some of our own players Armstrong in particular so its a no from me.

First game he plays for us he will get crunched by some knuckle dragger who cant accept he's getting skint by some kid. Scottish football was improving for a long time there but those d united games just summed it up for me. They get frustrated at the gap in quality and refs let them lunge. Im not sure how physical the Norwegian league is though so maybe he's used to it. Cant see real being too keen on him getting kicked constantly

Id still like to see him arrive I couldn't care less about training someone else's youth if they do a good job for us like denayour then its worth it. ffs most our youth teams usually move on anyway so technically we're already doing it

Competition fir places is always good just mean GMS armstrong commons and whoever else have to work harder to make the squad and who knows maybe he'll like it in glasgow n want to stay for a dramatic wage reduction :56:

Aye, rumours going around about him moaning about having to train in reserves but I'm not so sure...he doesn't strike me as a primadonna young player. Don't know why, he just doesn't.
