Dubravka only makes sense if we get someone else in along with, for the future.

He's a fair keeper and not gonna * on him as a player.
But it's short sighted and cheap, as always with us. Which adds to the mood of the place.

I think it's his experience they are buying into more than anything. Hart is a big player to replace on and off the pitch.

Read a few articles on Dubravka when he was linked last year and it was mentioned about him being very vocal. Defence is still relatively young and will miss Harts voice behind them.

Happy with Dubravka providing we bring in someone like the Finnish boy from Villa, who can play domestic cup games and odd league game next season with view of taking the number 1 spot in next 18 months to 2 years

Also he'll be on big wages at Newcastle. So he won't be cheap either

    Be delighted to sign him.

Look how Gordon, FF, Hart, McGrefor and Butland have done.

This guys coming up here with his stock higher then any of them when they moved up

There's nothing ridiculous about expecting something more.

We've never been more loaded as a club. Our previous goalie gave us about 6 months notice that he was retiring so we've had plenty of time to scout and identify replacements (which we should already have been doing for at least a year anyway).

And people are content that the best we can come up with is a 35 year old back up keeper who has never been anything more than average, on the downward spiral, who can't play with the ball at his feet and wants to punch the ball away constantly. Now he may well come in and be decent. But is that seriously the best we can do? A soon to be out of contract 35 year old backup keeper?

Reeks of doing the bare minimum.

    Brendan loves premier league players
    Better get used to it.

Might not be coming to us anyway

It leaves a question mark over Dubravka’s future at St James’ Park, and when asked what was happening, he said: ‘I have no idea. I have seen they are talking with other goalkeepers. I need to speak with the manager first. What is the plan for me? What is my future? I don’t know if they want me to stay or not. It is difficult for me, because I have been focussed on my job with the national team.’

Nick Pope will be Howe’s No.1 next season but the arrival of Vlachodimos and Ruddy means it is likely Dubravka will leave. His representatives held talks with Celtic before the Euros, but nothing was agreed.

If he’s here for a year while we really nail down a long term replacement, I don’t mind it.

He’s shown how good he still is in Germany.

Thing is, they watch him they know him.

people have said this previously about other teams fans who have watched their own players.

Be like us saying it about a player and others say don’t take notice they know * all…..

The fact he can’t cope with the ball at his feet and sweeper keeper role is concerning.

    Sorry I should have specified.

I wouldn't listen to footballing opinions of Newcastle fans on anything.

It could have been, but hart has been known to use his feet and was always quickly at getting out his goal. Aye as years went on and the last year we seen this change.

Fact still remains what his weakness is we need as a strength as a goal keeper.

He was signed by Rafa Benetez specifically for his ability to play sweeper keeper role. Whether he's declined over the last 5 years I don't know as I don't watch a lot of Newcastle to be honest.

Genuine question, have you seen much of him and know he's poor with ball at his feet or are you going off comments from Newcastle fans?

If a manger of the calibre of Benitez signed him bcoz of his ability as a sweeper keeper of be more inclined to trust his opinion rather than some * up geordies.

There's a quote from him on his wiki about him being a sweeper keeper type. Haven't seen much of it in the euros but I don't think he's that bad on the ball.

We don't really need him to be world class on it for 90% of our domestic games. Just as long as he's a bit more natural looking than Hart.

Most keepers nowadays require a bit of ability on it as most sides play the same way.

Rafa Benetez is notorious for setting his teams deep and defensive and playing counteracting football not having a sweeper keeper.

Just go onto that forum and see under Rafa and the team sitting back.

In all honestly, would you take the word of someone who has seen him play and is a fan of the club he is currently at or a fan at the club he is link with a possible move?

I’m going to take the Newcastles fan opinion on him in the first instance.

Does that mean he won’t come here and do a job for us? We don’t know but the side of his game we really need is his weakest part.

Never looked great during the euros with the ball at his feet one moment sticks out in my head against Belgium. Did have some good saves aswell and always the main aim for a keeper :56:like others have said would prob be happy with it along with a younger keeper with good potential

In all honestly no, not seen much of his games. But I’m looking at opinions of fans at his current club to see what he’s all about.

I mean what’s wrong with going on his current fans who watch him week in and week out?

Again I’ve seen the fans say he’s a shot stopper not this sweeper keeper you say Rafa signed.

Rafa’s tactics have always been defensive set up first. Then hit teams on the counter.

like I’ve said before. And just in case you ask have I seen Rafa’s teams in action, I have since I’ve been living in Merseyside for nearly 20 odd years.

so I am well versed with his football.
