He's not my first choice. I'd have the boy from Czechia in a heart beat. In isolation, I think it's a decent signing for a year or two. He seemed to play really well for Newcastle this season when called upon, playing over 30 games for them.

I suspect we are looking at 2 goalkeepers and one of them will be slightly younger, who will play second fiddle for a season or two before being promoted to No. 1.

Aye, he played 20 odd games or so.
Just shows how everyone's views are pretty different eh but at 35 he's got to have justone more year in him really.

    Catch 22.

Do we buy into the "goalies are built differently, he can be a 4-5 year signing".

    Or

"He's too old. We need a permo fix".

But the real catch 22 is that even if we do sign a cracking young keeper aged 25-30... He's gone in three years anyway.

Good keepers in the modern game are * gold dust.

I personally don't see any difference. In two or three years the new keeper will be sold or age out.
The only material difference is a fee.

Only works as 1 of 2, if he’s being brought in to replace Hart it’s utterly pointless.

I am not really for this, it feels like a lazy option. I can see some positives in that he is still their national team keeper and been playing EPL games but I can’t help think we could do with bringing in someone at least a few years younger.

If we sign Dubravka, I think we are then looking for a new keeper next year again and goalkeeper isn’t really a position you want to have to change regularly. I also think if you sign him he is going to be number 1. He isn’t coming here to sit on the bench.

Not a disaster if we did sign him but I would hope for better.

If the price is right, I'd take him. 23 league appearances this season for the 7th best team in the EPL. That's nothing to sneeze at. He isn't getting any younger, but 35 isn't necessarily a bad age for a keeper. Fit-wise, he's perfect for BR's system. He's a sweeper keeper who loves playing with the ball at his feet.

wee bit off-topic but just remembered I suggested Nick Pope when he was backup goalie at Burnley, that could have been a great signing. Is he back fit again for Newcastle now?, I seem to remember them looking for a new goalie.

Think theyve all but signed one for £15m, Trafford.

Pope would cost upwards of £25m even at 32, nae doubt.

While on international duty at Euro 2024, he said: "I am aware that there are rumours, teammates ask me about it, agents and people call me, if there is any truth to it. There was some truth in that a year ago and you see, I stayed at Newcastle, so I still take it as if there is no official offer on the table, then I absolutely do not deal. I told my agents that if it was concrete and there was an offer, then only then would I consider it. At the moment, it is only in the stage of some noises."

Newcastle United star Martin Dubravka has responded to links over a potential move to Celtic.

The Premiership and Scottish Cup winners are searching for a new No. 1 after Joe Hart retired at the end of last season - with the 35-year-old among Brendan Rodgers’ leading candidates to fill the void left by the former England international. Slovakia's first-choice goalkeeper was thrust into a starting spot in the English Premier League in the second half of last season following an injury to Nick Pope - but looks set to be put back down the pecking order by Eddie Howe next term

Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for Burnley shot-stopper James Trafford this term - which could see Dubravka drop to third-choice and clear the way for a St. James' Park departure with Celtic circling. And the goalkeeper admits he would consider a "concrete offer" as he claimed the Scottish champions were interested LAST summer.

While on international duty at Euro 2024, he said: "I am aware that there are rumours, teammates ask me about it, agents and people call me, if there is any truth to it. There was some truth in that a year ago and you see, I stayed at Newcastle, so I still take it as if there is no official offer on the table, then I absolutely do not deal

"I told my agents that if it was concrete and there was an offer, then only then would I consider it. At the moment, it is only in the stage of some noises."

And Dubravka’s agent, David Zika, has already stated his client is in no rush to make a decision - stating in January that the view could be changed on his future if he WINS Euro 2024. He told Sport.sk: “Mato [Dubravka] is satisfied that he has the necessary minutes, but the truth is also that if Nick Pope comes back, United will have two quality goalkeepers and only one can play.

    "no offer on the table".

Which means we're not even looking him, maybe option C or D down the line, after Lawell gets knocked back by other teams and keepers for offering a bag of wotsits and a can of warm cocal cola he found underneath his car seat.

By then he will have probably signed on elsewhere.

Feels like the same * as always, doesn't it.

All these links and rumours, some will be with a genuine interest but no doubt we barely show interest.

Begovic, probably asked his agent "what's he looking for in a wage?" "£40k" and then we've just never responded again.

    Casteels likely similar.

We won't bother responding or negotiating if it doesn't seem likely. But will happily let the noise of the kinks continue to make it look like we've went through a list and it's difficult to sign someone.

Enter Scott Carson or some one eventually.

Tbf it was probably just a lazy link that resurfaced because we showed interest last year

Really bad with the ball at his feet but a good shot-stopper.

I’d rather go for a younger keeper whose wages aren’t astronomical but hes better than the likes of Mvogo.

Celtic are plotting a move to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (14 June) that the Magpies have told Dubravka, 35, he is free to find a new club as they focus on signing a younger backup to Nick Pope.

Celtic are in the hunt for a Joe Hart replacement following his retirement and it is believed they are weighing up a potential move for the Slovakia international
Dubravka has opened the door to a Parkhead move in recent days, claiming he would “consider” a move to Scotland if the Hoops come forward with a “concrete” offer.

The veteran shot-stopper would be a natural replacement for Hart but it is believed Celtic will only move if Newcastle’s demands are reasonable – as he still has one year left to run on his contract at St James’ Park.

Wage demands are also a concern for the Glasgow giants, with Dubravka currently earning a reported £40,000-a-week with the Magpies

However, it is believed Champions League football could play a big part in luring the goalkeeper, who will play for Slovakia at the European Championships in Germany.

Dubravka made 30 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle in the 2023-24 campaign following a serious injury to Pope, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 48 goals.

The 35-year-old, who was briefly on loan at Man United in the 2022-23 season, has made 152 appearances in the Premier League over six years
