Hughes would be an excellent choice.

Some of the reasoning behind peoples opinions against him seem strange to me. Things didn't work out for him at City, but it was far from a bad job he was doing.

He had to try and gel a lot of new players together relatively quickly and made a decent job of it. Think they were only beaten twice in the league before he left (once at Old Trafford and once at White Hart Lane).

Hughes is the most promising young manager available, team him with Lennon and we have the passion and leadership to rival MoNs arrival

id like to see lennon go out and manage a team, see what hes like there, you can judge a manager, by his resources, what he can do with him and how he can get his team to perform, we dont know a lot about lamert just now, norwich had got relegated last season therefore have the better players in leauge hel be tested now once they get promoted lets see if he can beat the drop again

To be honest, I don't care who it is as long as it isn't Roy Keane.

need a guy who knows how to work the transfer market, as much as i like neil and support his time in charge i doubt he has the experience and knowledge to help build a foundation to work on, bring in someone with experience such as Hughes then maybe after a couple of seasons lennon will b able to take over the reigns if he wants too.

All this ex-player bolix. We would be raging if any other inexperienced manager from England's 3rd tier was considered. So shy Lambo?? Give the ex-player * a break. That sort of idiocy is what got us Mogga. I would go as far as to say that given Moyes wont be interested then it simply must not be an ex-Celt because none are good enough right now. Lambo is a nothing compared to Hughes. If we can get Mark Hughes we should be leaping at the chance. He has a more impressive level of CV than MON or WGS had before they came. He did very well at Blackburn and Wales and his failure at Mans City is a matter of opinion. I would be ecstatic if we got him because he would be the manager with the strongest CV of high level management that we have employed in a long long time (maybe ever).

know what you mean about feeling it in your bones. I just never believed in Mogga for a moment. I think you need hard headed pragmatic managers with no pretty football ideals. We should try and get Hughes in now before an EPL team comes in for him.

Ok so let me get this right most people dont want Hughes becuase he has won nothing ok fair point , But then look at it this way , As International manager of Wales ?

    Wales (1999-2004)

Mark Hughes was appointed Wales national coach in 1999. Initially appointed on a temporary basis alongside Neville Southall (suppose we could have be with Nev) to replace Bobby Gould. Before he knew it Hughes had soon done enough to earn himself a long-term contract, with Southall leaving the set-up shortly afterwards. When MH took charge of team affairs his countrymen were in the midst of a terrible run, but in the FIVE years with Hughes in charge Wales came CLOSE to qualifying for Euro 2004.

Ok for me that was a good job its Wales ffs , no offence to any welsh people ,

Next Blackburn key point here was to stay in the prem first season he did this ,
    Blackburn Rovers (2004-2008)

Hughes quit the Welsh national side in September 2004 to take charge of Blackburn Rovers, the last club he had played for. His key aim was to keep a struggling Blackburn side clear of relegation, which he succeeded in doing, whilst at the same time taking the club to an FA Cup semi-final for the first time in over 40 years.

In his second season, Blackburn surprised even the most optimistic supporters by finishing inside the top six of the Premiership, which meant qualification for the UEFA Cup. During their league campaign they teams such as Chelsea, Manchester United (twice) and Arsenal along the way. After just missing out on the League Cup final his team sealed their spot in Europe by defeating champions Chelsea 1-0 at home.

Hughes then set about creating a formidable side at Ewood Park. He entered the transfer market, bringing in players such as Benni McCarthy (£2 million), David Bentley (£500,000), Ryan Nelsen (free), Stephen Warnock (£1.5 million), Roque Santa Cruz (£3.5 million), and Christopher Samba (£400,000). Rovers finished 10th in the Premier League, season 2006-07, and in the same season reached the UEFA Cup round of 32, where they were knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 on aggregate.

In the same season Rovers faced Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, their third consecutive semi-final since Hughes took charge. The match ended in a defeat 2-1.

He won the October 2007 award for the English Premier League 'Manager of the Month', and eventually led Blackburn to a league finish of 7th in 2007-08, Hughes' final season in charge at Ewood Park.

Again ? What should he be winning here with Blackburn ? id call that a * great job look how far he had taken them look at the wins over the top 4 ,

oK Next City pip Chelsea to Hughes , Big task for him could he do it answer is we will never find out Mark was never giving the full support of the board he was building a good side , remenber when he took over he had the squad Sven left him , Next came the big massive take over and the board went out and got Robinho i bet you any money at all this was not a player Hughes would want he was forced to play certain players and wasnt allowed to drop others , he was also forced by Gary cook to sell Dunne as cook did not feel he deserved a new deal and again he was forced to go and bring in certain players he did not want ,

Man City is like Spurs players are forced onto the manager by the sporting director .He may have got Santa Cruz and bells but alot of them so called big money buys are from the sporting director , how can a manager run a club when he is being forced to play players that he does not want in the squad the day that takeover for City happened was the day Hughes card was marked , Roberto Mancini is exactly the same he was taken there as a short term fix even if he brings the top 4 finnish he will be sacked the board want someone like Jose and wont stop until they get there man ,

Its a given that the TM experiment is a failure , the rumour mill on Mark Hughes is just that . The current board will be hoping that wee Neil can steady the ship , bring in the Scottish Cup , this to there mind= success relatively speaking . This allows them to appoint Neil and the big man , on the cheap with the understanding , no cash , you have what you haveetc... Celtic men get on with it. The fans i would suggest would be happy with this arrangement , the board get out of jail , no large managers fees / salaries to fund ( Hughes ,Moyes , etc) with a very limited amount of cash promised - win win for PL and the boys.

Hughes would be a good choice. The post by holy pope highlights how good of a manager he is. I think he would do fantastically here and I hope he comes.

I Disagree with this post. I fully believe that the board will back the manager whoever it may be. I mean when was the last time that the board did not back a new manager when he took over. They backed WGS when he first arrived, granted WGS did make a lot of money back by reducing the wage bill and selling a few players.

If Hughes gets the job I think he could pluck some wonderful players from obscurity as he did with Santa Cruz, Samba, Bentley and McCarthy

His CV is a lot more impressive than Gordon Strachan's was but Martin O'Neill's CV could stand comparison with what Hughes has done. In fact I'd say O'Neill's is slightly better.

However, your point is valid in as much as Mark Hughes does have quite an impressive managerial CV. 3 seasons at Blackburn and he finished 6th, 10th and 7th in the Premiership. That puts him an absolute country mile ahead of people like Paul Lambert, Roy Keane etc.

Let's face it .. Hughes was never going to win much with the teams he was in charge off!
Saying that if he was still at City i think he would have won something, a cup at least and i think they would be 4th just now!

    Wim Jansen's record:

    P----W----D----L----Pts
    36---22---8----6-----74

    Jozef Venglos' Record:

    P----W----D----L----Pts
    36---21---8----7-----71

Dr Jo won only 3 points less than Wim Jansen did and I bet you wouldn't poke fun at Wim Jansen would you!? :87:
