A young man now and an even younger naive boy when he left.

Deserves a second chance and if he is able to produce as he did first time around would be a big asset for us.

Also not likely to leave for a second time as surely he now knows that the grass is not always greener. Beat years ahead of him and would have him back in a heart beat.

I genuinely believe it though and did when he was with us at the time. We even bought my mate a Maloney celtic shirt as we slagged him constantly the season he was meant to be a world beater.

I said when he signed for Villa that they should just cut out the middle man and sell him to Falkirk or somebody. He left us because he thought he was better than he actually is. I hope we don't take him back, he can stay on the Balti run!!!:celt_2:

The Celtic Song so long as Dean Park doesn't sing it.
Maybe he is just moving into a smaller hoose, after all the prices down south are ridiculous and with this credit crunch an all!!!

If that quote by Maloney isn't a hint then I don't know what is...as for having him back..I really don't know....but it was just a naive error..he did it when he was five years younger than Bazza when he went to Blackburn...

I'll base my opinion on purely football skills and whether I feel he can do a job for us...which makes me unsure..I don't know how much Villa are looking for him, but they'll try to make profit on him...

Why should we pay 3 million for a player who was desperate to leave us, when we sold him for just 1 million. A 2 million loss for a guy that is proving to be very unprofessional I don't think so, we can start fresh with someone else who wants to be here.

Was it not his agent that encouraged him to leave in the first place anyway?

it certainly was wonderbhoy. one of the misconcieved facts about agents. they only care about how much their client is getting as they get a percentage of that.

ie if Celtic offered Maloney £300,000 signing on fee and his agent gets, say for example, 10%. thats £30,000 from the signing on fee alone

Aston Villa would of given Maloney a higher signing on fee of around £650,000. £65,000 cash in hand for the agent. they're flee bags, the lot of them.

i prefer dealing straight with the player, like Boruc does, plus the player keeps all the signing on fee etc.

but some people think this is like the McFadden situation, where they think he rejected us. the truth is we never had a bid excepted by Everton! fair enough, his agent didn't hold a gun to Maloney's head, but its like placing a box of chocolates in front of a kid and expecting them not to have a chocolate mustache when you next entre the room.

Comparing his situation to McFadden is an insult to McFadden imo. why does everybody want to excuse it with naivity? of course no one is perfect, but that boy didn't only earn £10 a day at celtic. he didn't have to live like a homeless at all.

plus celtic offered him a new big * contract and he refused it. if I remember correctly villa just pay a few more £ a week, he's clearly after the money, but I don't mind that, that's his right and his decision. it just shows that there is no kind of passion and loyalty for celtic left in him.

for me he's still an one season wonder. apart from that special season, he has not done anything at all yet. He can't even cut it at a mediocre club down south with MoN as his gaffer.

so you tell me, either some of you are living in a dream world and maloney is the real deal or the epl incl. villa are just light years ahead of the spl and celtic.

I think if we are being realistic, we all know the answer. maloney ain't just as good as some would like him to be.

If that is your way of thinking then McGeady could be described as a half season wonder?

Maloney is a young guy who has struggled to settle at Villa. He has at times shown some flashes of quality and Villa fans had taken to him. It is obvious that his heart is clearly not at Villa and it is elsewere. He is like most players needs confidence to produce. At Celtic he was brimming with it and if he was able to re-discover his passion he maybe a fine asset.

Anyhow 2-3 million in todays market is little money for a player of his age and abillity not much of a gamble.

Yes and WGS is only a 5/8 season wonder?

McGeady is one of the reasons why we won the title. he has played an amazing season and even the media and huns can appreciate it. last season he started very well until the whole team decided to stop playing football, because of that 40 points gap.

Flashes, flashes, same with Donati, yet most celtic supporters would love to kick him back to italy. Maloney is simply just not good enough. he's also a lousy employee, if his heart says no to villa, but he certainly doesn't say no to the money for sure.

I agree normally the fee would be alright, but not for Maloney. just because we would even spend more money on bringing back a failed player than we actually got for that "superstar". the wages he'll ask for would be too high anyway and a waste.

still he has yet to prove if he can reproduce his one super season without getting injured or losing his heart to another club ...

Agree wholeheartedly with all 3 of these points :50:

He's done nothing apart from have a good season in a season where there were no other stand out footballers and that includes the other side of the city. You can include International and European level into that as well.

Maloney was offered a more than fair wage packet to stay at Celtic. He took the huff, because Celtic took a while to get it together and he didn't feel the offer was acceptable. He * off down south at the last minute, leaving us in the lurch, as we had no time to sign a replacement (McGeady was an unknown quantity at the time). Things don't start as well as he would've liked and he starts making noises about being homesick. He scores two against Chelsea and all of a sudden he's fully committed to the Villa cause again and is quoted as not wanting a move back. Things tail off again and he's once more thinking about returning to "Scotland" (in other words, Celtic). So, to sum up:

he left us in the lurch, chasing the English pound
he doesn't take to it and wants to go home
things improve and he changes his mind
once again, things take a downturn and he wants to go home. Again.

Flip * flop. Villa have said they'll will looking for a substantial amount of money, if Maloney were to move. Does anyone here want our club to spend £3M+ on a guy, who probably cries when asked to decide which socks to put on? Someone who, had he not been a greedy, spoilt little *, would not have cost us anything, but wages? Someone who thinks he only has to click his fingers and his safety net club will come running? It makes me angrier the more I think about it. It's like we're his sugar daddy and he thinks he can * himself around the town, until he's bored, before coming home and helping himself to daddy's millions. Leave him to rot in the Midlands. He might be talented enough to play for us, but he's not man enough. Oh, and for anyone comparing this situation to Charlie Nicholas: your spot on; he was a * as well.

Too many people forget that Shaun Maloney was double player of the year 2 years ago. The bhoy has undoubted ability.

He made a big mistake in leaving and he knows it. I took from the interview that he is very unahppy at the moment. The decision to leave probably eats away at him from the moment he wakes up in the morning until he goes to bed at night. When he's asleep he is probably dreaming of the chance to pull on the hoops again. Give him a break!

Anyway - with Naka leaving after next season we'll need a replacement - Maloney, like Aiden can play on the left and on the right.
