Fair point there Dempsey. It is the record so no doubt they spun whatever Maloney actually said to make it sound like he said Celtic are just not big enough.

If though Maloney did say something along those lines well then I guess he would have to say something like that as clearly moving from Celtic to Aston Villa is a money move and a step down from a club size and prestige standpoint.

some have said on here that maloney lacks ambition etc

celtic are a massive club i recognise

and yes champions league games are there on a plate for a player of celtic, but you could easily have not gone through to the next round and your biggest match would have been against man united, who hes guarenteed to play in england anyway

you could easily just f*ck up in the champions league then for a whole season would be playing average teams all season

in the premiership theres big games every week, fulham and charlton aren't the most fashionable teams as telfer said, but lets be honest they could beat the second best team in the SPL every day of the week.

villa have big ambitions, the 5 year plan is to reach the champions league, i realise you probably couldn't give a f*ck, but im just explaining that just because 2 of your players have wanted a new challenge they shouldn't be slated etc.

in the EPL they will be guarenteed to play chelsea, liverpool, arsenal and man united twice each, IMO that betters one game at the san siro.

I also don't understand the slating of martin o'neill, he did very well for your club, and hes just doing his job, i realise its frustrating for you, but you got good money for petrov, and maloney obviously didn't want to sign a new deal, was MON just meant to ignore him just because he was at his former club?
He wanted players he trusted from his old days with you, and he brought 2 in, im pretty confident he will bring knowone else in from celtic as they are either getting into there twilight of there career or are gordan strachan signings.

celtic have been my second club for about 10 years, so i'm not looking to just critisice the club etc, but i just don't understand some of the critism levelled at players who have left your club and for MON for buying players off you.

Excellent points mate. Your far too level headed for this forum though. I don't care under what circumstances a player has left the club, I always like to see them do well and I hope all former Celtic players in England have success this season.

Many of us are pretty sore the club brought him through for 7 or 8 years, we got one fantastic season last year when he had finally fully blossomed and then he leaves the next year. The club supported him through a lot of injuries (he was out injured about half of the time in the last 3 years). He was worth at least 5 or 6 million IMO and if he had even been a championship player, he would have been priced much higher. I am getting my head around Shaun going now and will not be bitter for much longer cause it gets you nowhere but you cant help feeling disappointed. Shaun's story is a carbon copy of Liam Miller's departure from us. Anyway, if Shaun plays like he did last season you'll love wee Shaun and Petrov is moody but when he settles in you wont find many as good at coming through late and nicking a goal. Both have shown they can play well in Europe too. Anyway, in the spirit of good inter-club relations, would it be possible for Villa to take Bobo Balde in the summer?

You know, after reading the last couple of posts on this thread I realise its pointless to be bitter and am finally calming down about Shaun. I think he has gone to EPL a couple of years too soon and its disappointing as * to not get a proper fee for him but nursing your wrath only harms yourself so I am going to let it go now. Shaun is a good wee bloke who got bad advice or made a bad decision IMO but I hope he does well. The emergence of Riordan also helps ease the pain a bit. :50:

I agree with everything you say there mate, except the point about Charlton and Fulham beating the 2nd best team every week. C'mon, even Rangers could beat Charlton. They're mince!

Don't take some of the views here as the overall view of all Tims. We all have different opinions on the subject.

Maloney has moved on, we have players to replace him. Life goes on.

i am not doubting that the epl is a better league than the spl,but one thing i must say is we dont give the spl the credit it deserves on very limited resources.we have come up against the cream of europe and for a spl team to beat the likes of your liverpools,blackburns..and recently man utd(whom fkd spurs 4-0 yesterday i may add)..juve,barcelona,benficato name a few.lets give our so called '* poor' league so credit.
you can throw millions at villa but they as the rest will never really challenge liverpool, man utd, arsenal or chelsea so dont kid yourself on!.
but as the gates slowly dwindle down south(and they will) due to the lack of competition(sorry...as they are) sky will dictate to the epl to allow the auld firm to join as a means to spice up the league create competition and most importantly bring in revenue!.
think about it who the * wants to pay £10 to watch bolton against portsmouth on premier plus????......
celtic v man utd, chelsea, arsenal, liverpool with the worldwide exposure of these clubs 10million people worldwide paying £10 for pay per view=£100 million for 1 * game!...
so yeah it stands to reason why teams down south dont want celtic or the poor mans glesga team huns fc because when we do .....we will be * massive.
    with our world wide support=revenue
    sky deal=revenue
    increased sponsorship=revenue
all the above x tenfold because of the league...we will be the biggest club in the world!

I predict Maloney will do better at Villa than Petrov, wouldnt be hard so far. :86:
And Hartley having better peripheral vision than Petrov, will contribute more in his limited time to Celtic than Petrov, in that I have every confidence. :50:

yep i agree with you there aswell mate....
and guys just to let you know after calming down over the last few days, yeah you are right there is no use in being bitter and riordan/mcgeady have emerged into exciting prospects... so on that note i will say....
im not bitter anymore...but hes still a greedy wee *!:50:
