To anyone who watches the MLS close. Any American lads you would like to see sign for us? Dempsey would be a player! Heard he's going to Liverpool though. Couldn't afford the wages sadly. Anyone else?

I wouldn't mind Donovan, Goodson, Cherundolo, or Gomez as well.

    Celtic's number 10 Landon Donovan

We could afford Landon, but would he ever come here? :54: Nope

Goodson would be interesting, Cherundolo would be a bit redundant with Matthews (although he might be my favorite USMNT member), couldn't afford Donovan, but I strongly agree with Gomez. I've always liked him... very direct but still tons of technique as well. I would have liked to see Cameron join but he's going to Stoke.

We don't need Cherundolo, but if we didn't have Matthews I wouldn't mind seeing him come in.

In recent years we've had both Keanes. Shift some more of our deadwood and we could just about afford Landon. Can't see us getting a so called "star" player for a while. Never know with Lenny though.

There's also the fact that he would rather go to Everton than come here. And the Keanes were both Irish legends, selling Donovan to the fanbase and making that the big marquee signing would be a harder sell.

It wouldn't be impossible. Landon needs the right people around him to inform him what playing for Celtic would mean. How massive a club we are. Everton will never have that. The only reason he went to Everton is because they play in the Premier League. He has a taste for the British game at least.

Yeah but for him it's about the competition, not where he's playing. I actually think the pressure of a big club would be bad for him and that Everton is about the right size for his personality. He's unfortunately a very delicate person. I also know that he absolutely fell in love with the club and has said a few times that if he ever leaves LA, it'll probably be for Everton. Also, no matter his defaults, he's also extremely loyal, almost to a fault. If Everton came in with an offer I don't think he'd turn it down just from that point of view as well.

I would think playing for Everton is a lot more stressful than playing for Celtic, Celtic (more or less) are guaranteed success, Everton are not and therefore have a lot more to play for such as survival in the EPL.

It might be true without Rangers, but he wouldn't like needing to win every week. It's unfortunate that he's one of the most talented Americans ever and he has that mentality, but it's just something to deal with. Plus he likes not being in the spotlight, our players are always scrutinized to ridiculous detail and criticized for anything in the Scottish media. I would love to see it, and I think it's a good fit talentwise, but I just don't see it as a very realistic option for anybody involved.

the SPL is a similar league to the MLS. Both are physical leagues.

a lad like Brek Shea i think would do very well in the SPL. He trained with Arsenal but I don't think he has the technical ability to make it in the EPL.

Interesting night in MLS. 1st-place (in the West) San Jose annihilated 2nd place (in the West) Real Salt Lake with Wondolowski getting a hat trick to put him on 17 goals in 15 games. LA meanwhile is beating Portland 4-2 following a golazo from Beckham, another from him on a nice free kick, a Donovan penalty, and a goal for Keane after some good movement.

Both Beckham's goals were great strikes. Boydchenko also netted a brace for the timbers well. His 2nd was the 1st time I've ever seen him score from outside the box.

Galaxy certainly have been in a some goal fests of late. Losing 4-3 to San Jose the other week and now beating Portland 5-3 this week. 2 goals for Robbie Keane last week as well when they were here in Chicago.

    Rapids lost again! * *. :47:

Played some real nice football, as well, especially in the 2nd half. Oh well...would've liked to see the new Boulder-Irish lad, Shane O'Neill, brought off the bench, but alas.

(Ran into him the other day, anyway, and he gave me a funny look, so, * him. :icon_mrgreen:)

Shea is * amazing. He's been good wearing a USA shirt too. I WOULD LOVE to see him come to Celtic. Also Dempsey and Donovan.

I was quite impressed with the lad last night. Gave us a good deal of problems with his pace, as well. Has potential.

Most people will talk about the Chelsea-Seattle game, or even if they do talk about the LA-Vancouver game it'll be about another Beckham goal or Robson's first goal for Vancouver (an excellent header by the way). But the real story is 18 year old Jose Villarreal coming off the bench for his second MLS match (last week he only got like 3 minutes though) and doing this to tie the game up:

He's an LA kid, from Inglewood, signed from their academy and by all accounts is just a special talent.
