    Maceo Rigters

The 23-year-old striker has impressed for the hosts and scored the winner against Portugal earlier in the week.
He is looking to leave NAC Breda after failing to establish himself as a regular up front in the team over the past couple of seasons.
Newcastle United and Celtic have taken in both Dutch games to date, and reports suggest the in-form Rigters could be available for as little as €300,000 (£200,000).
Rigters expressed his frustration at his situation with NAC and is hoping for the chance to play in his preferred position.
"I have never felt much appreciation at NAC Breda in the last two seasons," Rigters told Algemeen Dagblad. "More players felt that.
"I always feel that I am a centre-forward. At NAC Breda I have played just two matches in this position.
"I always had to train and play on the wings. In the front of the attack I have never got a good chance."
After struggling for goals at NAC last season, Rigters admits he is surprised to have started for Holland at the tournament.
He added: "I was surprised to start in the first XI. It is fantastic to play in this tournament."

Could this guy be another sno ? If he is that would be brill

Read it first Greendave he has been played out of position in a rubbish team where their top scorer has 8 goals and he has three when he has been playing on the wing and not upfront.

+ I never knew ther was another thread :84:

Do any of you fellow tims feel that this guy would be a good adition to the squad?

He's been a stand-out player in the U-21 championship against opponents such as the £17 million Nani.

Although his goal ratio is not great, he has been deployed as a winger when he feels he should definitely play centre-forward, making his ratio look pretty good.

At £200K, this is incredibly low-risk, and Evander Sno has proved that youngsters from the Dutch league can be a success over here without costing much at all.

I know i'll hear about how we've got far too many strikers, but i'm presuming miller and zurawski will (or should) be moved on in the summer, and i'd much rather have a squad of youngsters with passion and drive than some lazy git who thinks he is above being dropped.

On another note, does anyone think we will see a big(ish) name striker i.e Frei etc this summer.

I think we will be pleasantly surprised by MacDonald's contribution this time next year.

I think if he's only played 2 games as a striker then this guy could have very good potential - he seems to know himself that he wants to play up front.

There's no harm in signing him - maybe loan him out??

I agree that McDonald will do better than many expect, but I still would like a Frei type of signing.
Has anyone got a link to his goal against Belgium last night, it was meant to be a cracker!!
For £200k we should get in there quickly, as most clubs will be scouting the under 21 tourney!

    celtic after rigters

dont like to be a rumour starter but i got this off skysports news

Skysports.com understands Newcastle and Celtic are battling it out for Dutch starlet Maceo Rigters.

Rigters has caught the eye of a number of clubs during Holland's run to the semi-finals of the European Under 21 Championship.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals so far in the tournament and he has been one of Holland's top performers.

Rigters' performances have impressed scouts from Newcastle and Celtic, who have been taking in Holland's games.

The talented striker is thought to be considering his future at NAC Breda after growing increasingly frustrated at his role at the club.

The news has alerted Celtic and Newcastle, who are set to keep tabs on the player for the rest of the European Championship.

Rigters' agent Ton Smit confirmed Celtic and Newcastle were chasing the striker and that a decision on his future could be made after the tournament.

"There has been a lot of interest in Maceo," Smit told skysports.com.

"Celtic are seriously interested and Newcastle are also looking at him.

"We have had no official offers for him, but I believe both clubs will watch him play against England [tomorrow].

"Maceo would be keen on a move to Britain and play at a higher level."

We need to find players with potential and mould them into great players for Celtic. The realisation is we cannot compete with the lights, glitz and cash of the EPL!! £200-300 K, although not chicken feed is not a bad price for the chance of finding a jewel! Don't think Magic should move on, but Miller and co should be gone.

That one "OVERHEAD KICK" makes him the tournaments top scorer (joint) with Leroy Lita.
Games now went into penalties & if he scores & Holland go through, he'll probably end up as top scorer - possibly ending any chance we have of getting him.
The fact he's mates with Sno, don't mean much look at Thompson going to Rangers & the Huns thinking they'd get Skoosh just cos they've signed his mate...didn't happen.

Holland just missed a great chance to stick England out:54:

England tried to take a player off for another player, and the Holland manager got * off and sauntered onto the pitch, brilliant!

I'm still alive :celt_2: What a goal by Rigters. I don't understand why he is so good this tournament. Even if he plays as a striker in the Dutch league he didn't play that well.
