I think Luke’s proving that there’s a lot to be said about knowing the Scottish game and being prepared for it, also knowing the enormity of playing for the club. You can have all the talent in the world, but come in and struggle.

He makes every minute on the pitch count. We should be jumping on talent like him more often.

I was underwhelmed when we signed him, but he's really proving me wrong, he's a cracking player!

Not so much comparing them ability wise as I think Engels has the ability to do what Luke did yesterday, just more his appetite to get involved and make things happen I expected more despite the settling period and age factors you mentioned. Tbh sometimes younger players feel less of that pressure and play with more freedom than their elders so again I'm just surprised Arne has been caught missing in games.

Not having a dig just hard not to look at the contrast in performance from one high profile transfer to one fairly low profile in the same window.

Yoy have to give whoever identified him (Rodgers or scout) as a signing target a lot of credit because they have nailed it with this guy.

Lets be honest none of us were saying 'we have to sign McCowan from Dundee'. If someone can pull up a post of them recommending we sign McCowan before the speculation started then fair play to you. Im talking about well before it was reported we might sign him, no doubt there were people who had a good look at him when there was news we were interested and then said he would be a good signing but did anyone suggest we sign him before our interest was made public? Should consider a career in scouting if you did :celt_2:

I actually think for once the vast majority of comments towards him signing were positive.

It was quite clear he was a level or several levels above Dundee. Reminded me of McGregor anytime I watched him last season.

And that's not me saying I told you so, as plenty others said it too. Not surprised he's showing this.

Actually. Looking at his thread in the rumours section, maybe not at first.

Yeah for me it became pretty obvious he was the best player in the league outside of Celtic, even though I had my doubts when he was first linked. Reminds me of McGregor a lot too in some ways.

if I remember correctly I think people were maybe a wee bit more excited about us being linked with a CM from Switzerland instead of McCowan? But I think the majority thought he could at least do a job …

He’s exceeded expectations by far for me … to the point where you could genuinely make an argument for him starting. And considering how little we paid for him that’s incredible.

I will search for it, but the night Sevco played Dundee he ran the show. Sevco kicked him up and down the pitch and he got up for more and got better with every kick.

A few of us posted to say we should seriously consider going in for him. A great player who knows the Scottish game and could handle the winter mid week games in the * end of nowhere. He’s full pedigree too, which is an added bonus!

We got shouted down by folks saying he wouldn’t take us to the next level in Europe, but he’s perfect for certain Scottish League games and I think under our tutelage he will make an impact in Europe.

He is not only living the dream of a Celtic fan, he deserves to live it because he is good enough.

I always felt it was a smart signing as he counts for the homegrown and had shown enough to suggest he could step in for us in domestic games. He is looking even better than I expected though. Some players look good as a big fish in a small pond, but then struggle to step up. He is flourishing with having better players around him though.

Not just his attitude, mentality, heart and passion that he brings, his absolute quality, willingness to take on responsibility and be the difference in the team is remarkable.

Flew under my radar for Dundee, and from what I’ve seen absolutely baffled that I didn’t notice him standing out. Love signings like this, blew any expectations out the water in the most competitive midfield I can remember

McGregor, Bernardo, Hatate, Engels, McCowan vs Brown, Kayal, Ki, Ledley, Wanyama.

I think the 2012 one wins actually.

Brendan Rodgers is convinced Luke McCowan has a huge future at Celtic – and Scotland.

The midfielder grabbed his big chance with a man of the match display in Saturday’s 5-0 romp against Ross County and is in with a shout of starting Wednesday's crunch clash with Aberdeen. Rodgers has plenty of options to pick from but he has no doubt McCowan will star for Celts and can become a major player with his national team as well

He said: “I don't think there's any question of that. I think if you look at the tools that he has, because I've seen it for many years, I see every good player can't play at international level. International level for me is about technique, technical idea and having a level of speed that allows you mobility to get around the field

So you'll have some really good players, but just maybe aren't quite cut out for that mobility and fast pace at international level. Luke has that. If I look at him technically, physically, that was the analysis that we did before bringing him in to see where he was at in terms of his running power, his physicality. So that's there at a really, really high level. So we know he can do that

McCowan was spotted quizzing Rodgers and skipper Callum McGregor at the weekend and Rodgers insisted the playmaker’s willingness to listen will take him to the top. The boss said: “He's a learner. He’s got a great career ahead of him here at Celtic. He has all the tools. It's not an easy adaptation to come into a big club with big expectations and pressure, but he's settled in really, really well.

“He's now one of us because I see this winning mentality. I see the hunger he has to learn. I see the humbleness every day and how hard he works

He knows when he comes off the bench, when he starts a game, the opportunities he has for him to make an impact. It's so important to have guys that are hungry and want to learn

He’s a joy to work with. I think when you've got guys like Calum MacGregor, it's the beauty of having players like Calum MacGregor because then you create more Calum MacGregor's

That's why you have top, top professionals. The learning that he will get on a day-to-day basis from seeing the likes of Calum and working with the coaches and myself, you have to be curious, you have to want to learn. He's certainly one of those
