Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan remains firmly on Celtic's radar.

The Celtic Way understands that the Scottish champions are still interested in the 26-year-old, but have not formalised a move in any way or lodged a bid with the Taysiders.

Scottish Premiership rivals Hibs have already had two offers rejected - one of which was believed to be £750,000 - for the attacking midfielder.

The Dens Park side is reputed to be holding out for £1 million for their prized asset who played an important role last season as Tony Docherty's newly-promoted Dundee managed a top-six finish as he bagged ten goals and five assists which garnered interest from Bolton and host of MLS clubs.

McCowan has hit the ground running this season with three goals and six assists in seven matches over all competitions. The player's current contract at Dens Park is set to expire next summer and earlier this week Dundee boss Docherty confirmed McCowan hadn't agreed to an extension despite having an offer on the table from the Dark Blues

However, McCowan would also fit the bill perfectly as a midfield backup as he has proven Scottish Premiership experience and he would also enhance Celtic's homegrown quota in terms of Champions League league phase squad selections

Meh, I don't think we're in for him tbh.

If we really wanted him he'd be here already.

Take him and loan Dundee Holm for the season. Not sure he’d be willing to come here as a squad player but would be a very good squad player for the league.

Maybe we would rather get O'Riley's replacement in first, to stop unfair comparisons and talk of downgrades..

I think McCowan is a no brainer. Ticks a lot of boxes for us at only £1M, and if it means we get rid of Johnson/Welsh, then even better.

A downgrade on what? He'd a be a smart addition to the squad and probably step straight into the pecking order over Iwata and Holm, not everybody we sign needs to be the next superstar who leaves us after 2 seasons, get him on a 4/5 year deal and if he's accepting that he's not coming in as a nailed on starter he's the kind of player that could make a solid contribution for years.

A downgrade on anything we have .... he played for East end united ayr united now dundee and we expect him to come in and do something in central midfield for celtic. No way .. he isn't anywhere near the class that needed to be a celtic player. He was only given captaincy as sharpness was out injured. Its not all about how good you are, which helps,it's about having the mentality to play for celtic

how many of our fringe players out on loan would have the numbers he has in the same league against the same opponents. That makes him better than most of those options he has proved it in our league where he has the numbers

Sky Sports News revealed in June that Celtic have been keeping a close eye on Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan’s situation. He is the subject of a third offer of £750,000 from Hibernian, with The Dees looking for around £1m for their captain.

I'd take him but only as a squad player. Definitely less risk attached than some of the names linked and for a nominal fee plus homegrown status seems a no brainer for me.

This will def happen. Rodgers wanted 2 midfielders if O'Reilly left. It'll be Bogusz & McCowan. Both clubs will be relatively easy to deal with, not huge fees, not huge wages. Triple ticks for our Celtic board. Never mind that Bogusz is more of an attacker & McCowan doesn't improve us.

LA want upwards of £8m for Bogusz. That's a big fee for us.

He's also not a CM as you say. I really think he's the wide option but with some versatility.

I think it'll end up being £6m plus add ons type thing. Decent fee tbf but considering what we have in the bank we should be aiming for Engels at £10/12m. Been doing it in a top European league at a young age. Would be happy with Bogusz as a wide option on top of that.

Sell MOR to Brightin for 30 million and sign McCowan from Dundee for 1 million. Sums our board up in two moves..

Not against signing him but if we are we better be getting 2 other midfielders.. * * this window so far is a nightmare

I really hope we sign this boy now, I'm certain he will be significantly better than what some on here think
