    Celtic have released Luca Connell.

The Scottish champions have decided not to take up his final year option.

The 21-year-old is now a free agent and considering his options on both sides of the border.

Celtic paid around £350,000 to take the midfielder from Bolton Wanderers back in 2019.

Connell has struggled to make his mark on the Celtic first-team.

The majority of his first-team playing time has come on-loan in his two spells at Queen’s Park

The Republic of Ireland under-21 cap has helped the Spiders to win promotion from League Two to the Championship

I agree with generally but where would Coleman get in? Not ahead of juranovic for me and Ralston deserves his place as second choice. I would think Jason knight would be a great signing for us. Box to box, hard working, technically very good.

Keep hearing people say we need a defensive midfielder, think Cullen could do a great job there for us too. Collins or Egan would get in over Starfelt at the back any day too. Jason Knight will be a great signing for whoever gets him and can imagine he wouldn't cost an arm and a leg given Derby's financial situation.

Development signings like this one are important and it is a numbers game, plenty won't work out but you only need the occasional gem for it to come good. It's a shame it hasn't worked out, it's a shame.most just never get a chance, our development pathways are just not right in the youth/ reserve lack of setup we have, it's detrimental to Scottish football as a whole at club and international level (aye, he's no Scottish I know that before anyone is being a wise *)

We do need to give more opportunities to out younger players though, even just have one on the bench most games, if we're well ahead get them on to see what they can do, there were times last year we had 2x goalies on the bench that's just a waste

Coleman? * *, maybe 5/6 years ago but not now, he has been * for around 2/3 seasons now.

Jon Joe Kenny played better than him and that’s * scary.

Hope he finds a good landing spot. Good luck to the lad. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. I always though it strange that he didn't get a loan deal at a higher level then Queens Park when he was with us.

Had potential and was a likable, infectious wee character from his early interview's..

Think pace holds him back. I didn't notice it from his reel but meant to be really slow..

Wanted to see a bit more of him after that 45 minute's he put in against Hibs in the friendly but he's had some real low level loan's so no one must really fancy him. Technically a good wee player as well..

    Hope he does well somewhere..

Wonder if Broony would maybe take him down to Fleetwood. Capabale at that level and close to home for him..

FLEETWOOD TOWN boss Scott Brown is set to move for ex-Celtic team-mate Luca Connell.

The 21-year-old has been released by the Hoops after a loan at Queens Park-last season.

Irish midfielder Connell, who cost £350,000 from Bolton in 2019, has failed to make the breakthrough at Parkhead.

Former Celtic captain Brown has already raided Scotland for St Johnstone’s Shaun Rooney.

He’s also in the hunt for one-time Hibs player Josh Vela from Shrewsbury.

He has the technical ability to make it at a decent level, but not the physical to. Let him go on a free with a sell on if we can, might get something off of that.

He’s an enjoyable player to watch, but think at Championship/League 1 in England its the worst suited for him. Would have been interesting to see if a team like Oostende wanted a punt on him.

Could be a good move for him as Brown will obviously know him well and would not want him if he didn't see him in his plans for next season.

I always found it weird the loan moves he got. There's still a chance he would have never made it here, but I was really surprised he didn't get a move to a Championship side. *, I'd have even expected a few SPFL sides to be interested.

League 1 down south is obviously much tougher than league 1 up here, but I still think he'll do well at Fleetwood if he signs for them.

Not for one moment suggesting Fleetwood players would be operating at remotely our level, but is intriguing that Brown must have taken to and liked Connell if he's one of the first he goes for.

Must have impressed someone enough, but yet never got a chance.
