Celtic and Lens have made offers for Aston Villa striker Louie Barry but he looks likely to stay.

The Scottish champions are understood to have proposed £5million with a further £5m in add-ons plus a buy-back option for the 21-year-old

Manager Unai Emery is ready to give the green light for a new contract to be handed to the former England U18 international before considering whether to send him out on loan at the end of the window, or stay and help Villa with their push for European qualification

French side Lens were ready to push the youngster straight into their first team, pitching that he could progress in the same way as defender Abdukodir Khusanov who is due to join Manchester City tomorrow for £33.6m.

Well that puts the tin lid on that. Guy looks a talent but we are showing we will spend if need be.

Think he will stay at villa. Doesn't need to come to celtic to play for a big move when he can probably get first team soon enough with them

Aye quite impressed with that offer, probably little room for profit but it's a good step up from our usual offers.

Move straight on to Moro now for me.

If we offered that then immediately move on and sign Moro and the Norwegian for the same fee.

    Or Traore and Moro. Pls.

This is not some random Asian team where a player is desperate to make the move to Europe or a Scandinavian team where 5mil is alot of money. We can't really * around if we do want him.

Another team from England will just pay his fee. It's how it works down there. If we want him then pay the money.

If we don't want to pay it then realistically we need to stop looking in England.

He’s a very good player but for the potential and price he’ll end up costing £12m+ we should be doing the right scouting and finding the next version of a “Louie Barry” from a league that’s not overinflated financially

We're rich enough to avoid buying pounding Barry, 12m for the real deal? Bargain.

Take cheap punts and hope they're not Yang and Palma 2.0 as oppose to paying for genuine quality ? I like it .

Louie Barry isn't even "Louie Barry" yet tbf he's had 2 seasons on loan at Stockport, if that. We aren't exactly looking at a well renowned player here.

This is unfortunately the way the market is going. If we try and go cheaper all the time it's gonna result in more hits than misses.

I didn’t say cheaper as in a lesser player….i mean scouting properly and signing someone who isn’t playing in England (that immediately doubles their value…..idah for example.)

can’t tell me Louie Barry is the best wing option out there for us? No he isn’t. There’s probably hundreds if our scouting has been to the level it should. That doesn’t mean you’re buying a lesser player or taking a cheap punt. It means you’ve scouted the best player for the best value and attributes

Celtic are unlikely to reach Aston Villa’s Louie Barry asking price after reportedly seeing a £10million bid rejected, sources have told Football Insider.

It has been reported that the Hoops have offered £5million, reaching £10million after add-ons, for the 21-year-old – with a buy-back clause also inserted in the deal

However, sources say Villa are unwilling to sell Barry this month unless they receive an offer which is “too good to turn down”.

That figure has not yet been reached with Ligue 1 side RC Lens also reportedly in the race for his signature and making an offer

It is believed Celtic will be unable to reach Villa’s asking price for the young forward, who was recalled from a loan at Stockport County earlier this month.

The Hoops are unlikely to submit an offer worth more than £10million before the end of this transfer window

Barry has now returned to Premier League Villa, who are now carefully considering the next steps ahead of the 3 February transfer deadline.

He scored 16 goals in 24 games for Stockport in the first half of this season, including 15 in League One

The 21-year-old, who can play on the wing as well as in a centre-forward role, has contributed regular goals in League One and League Two throughout his development

Barry has spent time at Ipswich, Swindon, MK Dons, Salford and Stockport since the ex-Barcelona star returned to England in 2020.

Celtic are eyeing forward reinforcements despite sitting top of the Scottish Premiership and being well placed to progress in the Champions League
